Well let me ask you Jones. What do you want? A mod that works perfectly or a mod that was rushed and will only run on 4 different computers around the world?
Mods take time. And when I mean time I mean time like months. Will there be a mod within 3 months? Very likally. With all the hype around BF2 we modders aren't waiting around.
DiceCity team is already working on finishing a mod. BF2 Nights converting all the BF2 vanilla maps to Night Time Maps. Also including Nightvision and maybe flashlights. I mean there are already mods out there. The realism mod the Jet powered mod. Theres alot. The thing is the mods it seems you are wanting are the ones that are gonna take along time. It takes along time to model vehicals and get things to work right in a game that the mod tools aren't even finished in.
So Im saying yes mods will be out in 3 months. Will any large mod like FH2 or DiceCity 2 be out in 3 months. Highly doubtful. They take time.

BF42 has spoilt people. They expect mods of the quality of FH and DC, as opposed to hope for them.
People spend a huge ammount of their own time making these mods for very little recognition, just so that you can play them, and the fact you don't seem to care about their progress, and just want to know when it's out so you can play seems a bit disrespectful to the people who work so hard to make it for you.
Why?!

How bout you make the mod yourself, then you dont have to wit for a release?

Yes but modmakers, why do you need to make a thread for every little update, just make one thread when you're in the beta fase, and one whne the mod is ready for open beta and one for when it's finished.
Most of you make a thread just to announce it, when nothing is done yet, get us all exited, then we every 2 months a little update, and then 2 years later the mod is cancelled.

I apologise on behalf of the entire modding community that we get you're hopes up by offering these great mods, only to rip them back from you by cancelling.
Firstly, When you work months and months of a project, you want people to play and enjoy it. THAT's why we release media - to get people interested in the mod, to get people excited. The more, good quality media we release, the more excited people get. Remember, unlike computer games companies, we don't have entire marketing departments putting adds in magazines and making sure we get good reviews in PC Gamer - releasing media is our ONLY method of getting our name out there.
Secondly, why is it even a problem? You're not made to click on the links, are you? Just ignore them if it's that much of a problem. But to expect mod teams to throw away their single method of publicising their mod just so that you don't have to look at their media is selfish and ridiculous. Also note that the mod team members rarely make posts, it's the website and forum moderators who do, because they know that most people ARE interested in mods' progress.
And watch where you point that word "you", please. People that do as you said aren't mod makers, they are people who get an idea, tell everyone they'll do it without understanding the process, then when no one wants to join them based on their inarticulate, unfeasible design, they give up because they have no idea what they're doing. It will occaisionally happen to real mods, but please watch where you put "most of you."

Whats wrong with wating untill the beta to release stuff. Then you'll atleast have something to show, and no it's not only the people with only an idea and not an actuallteam that do that.
Fact is you're just shooting yourself in the foot by doing this, cause if you releas it to fast and then we don't hear nothing from you in moths or just little updates people will simply loose interest and will make threads like these, so I really don't see your point. But if you start releasing media, from a point where you can get a good estimation when it will be released you can keep buidling up the hype.

I have to say some mods will keep you on the edge of your seat to only cancel it months later...HOWEVER... updates are very good! I like to see updates from mods, even the smallest thing... even an update that says "We're still alive" so I know they are still working.
Mods work hard and take their time to perfect a mod to get more publicity..if BF2 is that boring to you, go play other games till the mods are released and gain some PATIENCE in your life.

How do you expect a mod nobody has heard of or seen to simply come up with a beta in the first place? Showing updates of the mod builds a fan base, which helps keep a mod from quitting. And updates also show that a mod knows what it's doing, and will attract other modders to come work on it. You can't just work on a mod in the dark for 2 months and release a beta... You'd be the only one working on the mod, with no outside input.
And I do realise that there are some mods that just shouldn't be started. Those are the ones that are started by people that have never been in a mod, and think posting a picture of their new exploding barrel model is a major update that will attract people.

What if EA never released any screenshots for BF2. No one would know it existed and no one would care because they dont know what it looks like. If they then suddenly released screenies when it was released, no one would be able to get it at launch and they might not be able to get it because they havent saved up the money. Now replace EA with a mod team and BF2 with their mod and you'll realise that the only way to create intrest in a mod is to release screenies for it about updates. Plus many people follow mods for the enjoyment of waiting for it to be released and in fact seeing how well the team is progressing. Some teams even ask their community for feedback on what they should do or suggestions. Without updates, half the mods around would never come to light.

Hey thnx people for blatently disregarding most of my second post.
A beta is not a finished product, in a beta you still have like 3-4 months to go.
And as for the rest reread my secons post:
Whats wrong with wating untill the beta to release stuff. Then you'll atleast have something to show, and no it's not only the people with only an idea and not an actuallteam that do that.

Or just don't pay any attention to it, and keep wondering why hardly anyone is interested in your mod after a certain time.

Wow.
You have nothing better to do than ***** about how mods are taking their own time to show people their work? You cant even see the fact that updates give a vital service to the mod?
Would you rather see updates for three months, or nothing for five?

To all mods: Keep the updates coming. :)
As for the OP: Don't look at the updates if you don't want to. The mods are trying to build anticipation for the upcoming releases, show off thier handywork, and get community feedback. I for one enjoy the updates and I'm not alone.
Also, I guess you don't consider the "models and skins as something to show"?
