where did the muzzle flash go?...I don't think it's very realistic....and how come I can't see if my weapon is on Auto/Burst, or single....and what's the difference between HEAT and the other one, I can't figure it out
Muzzle flash was removed as real weapons do not have Hollywood pyrotechnic pops after each round. More smoke vs. flash.
You can keep track of your weapon setting by doing the following: auto or burst is currently the default. Click over for single. It's not as useful as a HUD indicator, but in contemporary infantry combat, there is no HUD.

I agree with everything so far except for the removal of the firemode indicator. In RL you can easily check this. In the game you can't. You should put it back.
Heck, if you're talking realism, why not remove the ammo indicator (rounds remaining in the mag) and just make the last 5 rounds tracer ammo to notify the operator that he's outta ammo.
Actually, I would do the last 5 round ball, and put the three rounds before that as tracers, so I knew when I was down to 5 rounds in the mag without looking. Worked for me in Desert Storm. Should work just fine in game.

There might not be a hud in contemporary infantry combat but for firemode you wouldn't need one, in real life one quick touch of the thumb would tell you in what position the firemode selector points to.
As you can't do that in a game, a visual que might do the trick?
solodude23
08-13-2005, 04:40 AM
For now I think your fire mode indicator should be kept in. I hate having to fire to have to know what I have selected. For one it can give me away, and other than that its just plain not nearly realistic or practical. Util some sort of realistic visual thing is added, it should be kept in.
I played for about an hour before bed tonight. With the rifles being stronger and a lack of health meter it forces you to be less of a "rambo" then you would in vanilla Bf2. I actually saw people using covering fire and moving as squad
mmm teamwork, thats what I'm talking about. ;)

I think some kind of health meter is needed, cuz in RL life u can tell if u r hit and how badly...in this mod u can't, unless u r bleeding....
Also, how come only M24 has such a powerfull scope, how about other sniper rifles?
and I think the sounds need to tweaked...I think you jsut tried to make the guns louder but it jsut didn't come out that good...cuz when a guy is "a mile" away...u can hear his gun, like he's right next to you

Well it's not bad, but I don't really like it. It limits the gameplay options of BF2. It feels more like a lite version of BF2 than a BF2 with a mod. They just removed a couple of things and didn't really add a lot noticeble stuff. In my opinion that's rather easy for a mod, let's hope they elarge the game, than it might be something.

You'll just have to play with it and see whats the difference between both rounds. If the HEAT round is used properly you can destroy a MBT within one shot.

This is a bad sign IMO. I dislike people who push "realism at all costs" without intelligently thinking it through. In contemporary infantry combat, there IS an indicator, and in fact, it's easy to tell the firemode WITHOUT EVEN looking, as others have said. Unless you're also shipping us a tactile gunshaped controller with a firemode selector on it, then perhaps a visual cue might be nice?
Is this the same mod that has anti-tank mines activated by infantry "for the sake of realism" (even though that does NOT happen), or another mod making misguided game design decisions?
It's nice to get closer to reality, but again, unless full-on VR is being used, we're dealing with a monitor and a keyboard, and people have to THINK THROUGH these decisions. "Dude no ammo indicator!! JUST LIKE REAL LIFE BROHAM!!! In 'nam dudes didn't have flatscreen monitors telling them how many bullets they have so WE DON'T EITHER!" Fine. But an actual clip weighs a lot less when it's about dry than when it's full. Or tracers can be used to indicate final rounds. Without taking these type of things into consideration, it just make a "realism mod" suck.

I love that change! lol Someone shoots a gun in an urban spot like Kirkland, half the town should hear it...and now they do!
Fireindicator and bullet counts not being there I have no issues with. You just have to keep track of what you are doing in the middle of battle...
And this is the Mini-Mod of the game. Nothing major was added because thats not the point of a mini mod. Now that everyone has the mod tools, things on ALL the mods out there can finally start to make some large steps forward.

3.in planes you see no ammo indicators, in a real plane you can see what you have left.
4.vehichles you cant tell how much damage is done to them in a real vehichle besides jeeps youll have warnings and whatnot.
5.the ammo doesnt realy bother me. i wish i new how amny clips i have to begin with.
6.the bleeding i cant stand it.
7.the m24 the zoom is to far for how inacurate the gun is, at distances you cant hit anything. i love sniping and im a good sniper. but this is rediculous.
8.in the gunner position in choppers you cant see anything especialy in the chinese atack chopper.
theres more i just cant think of them as of now oh blood! i know its in there but would there be a way to make bodies last longer, and when shooting people i realy cant tell when i hit them. this is what anoyed me about all the other bf titles.especialy 42. well thats all i have as of now.

Just for the sake of the argument, drop the number of bots and see what happens.
I have issues with the smokescreens at my current settings and those work fine for vanilla BF2 so you might want to think about losing a bot or two. Unless you want to keep the bots and lowere your settings....

Launch BF2, the original game, once the menu has loaded find a buttn that says "COMMUNITY".
Click it and another menu will appear. Find a button named "CUSTOM GAME"
Should be the last one in the second row of buttons. Click it.
Now, in the window below the buttons a list of the mods you have installed for BF2 should show up.
Locate PRMM Project Reality MiniMod click on it (the name). Find a button named "ACTIVATE" Click on it and answer yes when it asks you if you want to restart.

Im not a coder, but im guessing that dosn't effect putting your mouse over enemy at all...does it? Thats what I mean. I don't really want to see enemy tags at all unless its like within a 4ft range, JIC you want to know who it is or w/e.
Any way in the code to remove ENEMY tags when you put your mouse over them?
Not that I'm aware of, I'll keep my eyes open though.

For the more controversial changes we are doing up some polls to survey what people think about some changes that will be done for a future release. Although we may not go with the majority ruling on any giving poll, we certainly appreciate your participation and feedback.

I, like Durka Durka, really think I'd enjoy this MOD, BUT the MOD starts up fine and then shortly "freezes and then CTD!". I have installed as directed to the default location and everything - finally - I uninstalled it and then de-fragged, re-installed, but same thing - FREEZE- CRASH! My regular BF2 has not and still does not do the same thing. Please advise IF possible.

Installed this mod and now I cannot connect to regular bf2 servers.
Get an error when joining game something like:
"Can only connect to server with unmodified content. Please return to original BF2 content" or something to that effect.
So now I cannot play the regular game online.
Want to unistall mod w/o uninstalling bf2 and reinstalling. WTF?!?!

I kind of ran into the same thing - they SHOULD tell you in their README thing that there is a UNINSTALL but you can hardly tell it by it's name. It is not called PRIMM - - - - but go to ADD REMOVE PROGRAMS in Control Panel and aways down there you will find a new one called something like "My Project....." that will be it. Good Luck!

All the installer does is extract the mod to ..\mods\PRMM and copy levels from ..\mods\bf2 to ..\mods\PRMM. To uninstall, simply delete the PRMM folder or go into add/remove programs and remove My Program 1.5

That would be fine except the view isnt down the sites in normal view mode. You have to aim way right.
Any chance of moving the camera view so we are looking down the sites?
And unfortunately when ive went online with it .............. theres about 10 servers running it ...... but no one in them :hmm:
Great mod by the way!
