A for effort.
Criticisms:
MP5: Both model and skin are totally inaccurate first off. The barrel is only painted gray and definitely lacks the details on the real MP5. The fire selector is inaccurate swell. They should read S E & F...not the bullet indicators (those go on a different variation of the receiver). Lastly, the details and engravings above the magazine are really poor 'cause it was either rushed or the skinner had no idea how to do it properly... Considering the blockiness of the model, the BF2 MP5 is much better imo.
Apache: Can't really say much about the model since I have no further experience with the machine (it looks good) but the skin is also on the mediocre side. Not really any details on the green variant which makes it looks like a flying green tube. The rocket/missiles skins are quite nice tho, but that's from afar. I don't know if they hold up upon closer inspection. I'd suggest using a lot of reference since the skinner of yours really misses on the details quite terribly.
AV-8: Looks a bit Hollywood-esque with the over exaggerated weathering and carbon stains. The lines that make up most of the details are quite blurry and it would be better overall if it was a little darker and grayer.
SAW: Looks ok from afar...the receiver looks like a poorly done photo skin tho and the magazine is cheaply made with no real defining texture.
Your material could've been better by a mile if you guys used and imitated reference pictures more often.

MP5 looks completly toyish and both versions really lack detail in both skin and model. The apache is ok but both model and skin look more suitable for a BFV/BF42 mod, in short average. The harrier is a pretty good model but the skin is way overdone although detailed. The saw looks completly aweful, off scale, lack of detail, toyish look, just blah.

splinter stop rambling ranting and *****ing on and on about nothing you have no idea how hard it is to make a mod let alone a game. oh yeah and that reminds me ITS A GAME. you have to give whoever made this mod credit. i tried to make a mod once. i ended up makeing my vehicle a big box with a circle on top that constantly rolled around in circles playing motley crew songs

Like the models overall. Like that particular version of the MP5, but hated that second "camo" skin. Please do NOT include this in the mod, I think ppl will either never use it or laugh at you because it is ridiculous. Sorry.
Absolutely HATE that particular version of the M249 SAW. Don't know why in God's name you would replace the current M249 ingame (which looks great but has horrible accuracy and too much bullet spread) with THIS version.
Good luck, you'll need it.

I find it interesting how demanding we modders/fans can be on our work, but when it comes to real games (on the store shelf) we don't even notice all the horrible mistakes game companies make. We just gobble it up like its ****e from heaven, lol. I think we, the gamers, should be just as harsh on real games as we are on our mods.
Just a thought

I think that Apache looks better than the Apache in the upcoming BF2 add-on called Special Forces. :p
Compare:
SF Apache (http://media.pc.ign.com/media/759/759744/img_2908992.html)
DC Apache (http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/apache_overview.jpg)
The SF Apache looks like same as in GTA Vice City.

Good effort from the DC team. And i agree with GI_JOE, there is stuff in retail games way worse than this. Heck, a lot of weapons skins in BF2 are downright crappy!

Sometimes harshness is the best way to help someone improve. However, I don't think being harsh on retail games will cause them to improve it though. We already paid the $40 USD or whatever and seem to be happy to play it. To them, fun is more important than accuracy or graphics. That's one reason why all Battlefield games out have been more arcadish than realisitc. Then they leave modders with a nice game engine to do what they choose to do it.
On the subject with mods, they need the community support to survive and are very likely to take suggestions. Also, community comments are good for giving the mod an idea of how they will do when released. I once led the mod "Flashpoint Balkans" for BFV, and pretty much all we got was diss. But, with each diss, we took it as a suggestion on how to make the mod better. I still think the last release was total garbage, but with the insults and community reaction, we have a good idea on how to improve the next version.
Just my ideas. Sorry, if you can't understand what I'm saying.
Also, I collect replica weapons, and MP5 does not look like that. The skin is very wrong.
Hannes, I hate those M15 airsoft rifle. Mine broke after 400 shots and the store won't let me return it.

I would suggest that if the model is in BF2 vanilla and it is good, don't waste time and effort making another. Just use it or tweak it. You guys already have a lot on your plate without re-inventing the wheel.
I liked the models and in particular, the apache. But as Splinter says, really really do your research. If you don't have that much time, get someone else to do the research. The better they are at it the easier your job of modeling will be.
I am definately keen for this mod. BTW, why don't you guys talk to US Intervention mod devs about a possible merger. They seem to be inspired by Desert Combat...

I don't really understand why you'd replace the current m249 for BF2.
I wish mods would be original with their ideas. Hopefully there will be mods that don't go with the standard US Military game feel. It's a little boring after so many games and mods already use it.
I can't wait for interstate and another star wars mod :)
Entertainment beats simulation.

Well I think the renders are good, All I can say if it plays like DC I will be happy. DC still in my mind is the best. Better than the candy version they call BF2, The only reason I got BF2 is for the future mods. All the mods I have seen so far are looking good, So props to the Devs.
BF2 is a joke, Its going to be the Sims all over again, Added vehicles, maps, and new features in the future expansions that you have to pay $40-$50 for. Well I for one will not buy expansions after expansions to get the stuff that should be in the game in the first place. That is why I am looking forward to the mods cause they will add the stuff we want within reason, They also listen to the community for suggestions.
I see EA have there mind on $$$$$ and how long they can suck the life out of a game.
Make sure you add Lost Village to this Mod, In my mind one of the classic DC maps that should be added to this for sure!

And yea me and Gab started this a while ago, and when we did we actually had some people from DC, just most of them didnt stick around.

Question regarding the old DC soundFX.
1. Are you guys using them?
2. Who owns them now, Dice/EA?
3. If so, are you guys planning on using them in BF2, or are they prohibited by EA's decree regarding all BF1942 content?
Just wondering
Thanks

What worries me about this mod (of which I have high hopes) is that they're starting without a lead coder...
Desert Combat was founded by a coder, one with a passion for the 'DC' experience... Obviously these guys have the passion, but it does need to be backed by quality code.
With regards to the negative comments people have made about the models... the models are 'decent' - and gameplay means sooo much more than just looking pretty.

LOL all of this is quite funny. OMG you guys are false advertising.. blah blah blah.. We dont have any of the original DC STAFF AT ALL... relax. No one ever claimed to. We have some of the old testers I think thats about it. These are the people who have a passion for Desert Combat. I cant speak for Junglist, but you guys are gonna love whats being done and when you get the product you'll love it even more. Talented bunch of guys. Get your spooge rags out cause your gonna need them later on down the line.
