Let's say that a really good player gets 200 points per hour, he would need to play 12500 hours to get the top rank. If he plays ten (!) hours a day, it would take 1250 days which is almost 3 and a half years. That's nuts. There's no way anyone would get that far before bf2 stats are shut down many, many years in the future.

I'm only interested in earning ranks because of the unlocks you earn. I don't enjoy being the commander so much so it's not a big deal if someone with a higher rank knocks me off the commander spot.

I do like the ranking systen alltogether. it's nice to compare stats to see how i could improve my game compared to others.

Call me a total stat whore all you want but my current goal is to get a global KDR of 3/1. That is without sitting in a tank, heli, or jet all day either. I've upped it by about .5 of a point in about a month now, currently at 2.82, so I guess 3.00 isnt too far away.

but, if you think about it, it isnt a totally hollow goal, you need 3/1 KDR to get the War College Ribbon anyway :)

I am going for sergeant by the end of september. I play medic nonstop because I am trying to get the expert medic badge. I go for the badges cause its fun to get them. I would really like the get the military service medal. That would take an entire year of playing to get. I basicaly play a lot and am motivated by my next onlock and am constantly watching other players trying to figure out if there is a better kit for me besides medic. I really like medic but i never get that many kills simply because since medics can heal themselfs, ea had to give them bad guns or else they would be invincible.

I agree I just want to have fun playing a game that is not ruined by people doing things like throwing grenades continuously or spawncamping because they are scared or unable to fight like real little soldiers. I don't put alot of emphasis on the scoring. In the end just like in BF1942 it's just a way to judge how well you played/sucked for that round. I'm not sure if a high scores proves that you are a good player or not. It's debatable I guess.

I don't even look at my stats anymore since I got all my unlocks. I only go around to playing ranked BF2 games when PR servers in Aus aren't populated. Even then, I don't really have a goal; apart from leading my team to VICTORY!

I want to get at least to SGM before I move to 2142 full time. That game is like BF easy-mode. The thing is, they did a lot of things right. I think the squad bonuses were something that should have been present from the beginning. Give someone a reason to join and stick with a squad. Hell, they removed the main bonus of squads from BF2, squad hopping to spawn on advantageous positions as the battle dictates. Now there is almost no reason to join a squad in BF2. They really should implement the system from BF2142 in the patch.
Oh, and do NOT say VoIP is a bonus to being in a squad. There is a very real reason why almost every clan has their own vent/TS server. BF2 VoIP sucks balls.
