How do I add burning car wrecks (like the ones on the Strike on Karkand map) and the likes to my map?? Doesn't seem to be a simple dragable object from the object list.... or am I mission something??
Thanks for helping on this one..

When you are in the level editor, you can add wrecks to your map this way.
One of the wrecks you can find under: objects -> vehicles -> land -> wreck_btr90_static .
You can add fire or smoke effects. These are found under: objects -> staticobjects -> ambienteffects -> static .
The other wrecks are also under: objects -> vehicles, but I don't have time now to search all of them. Hope this answers your question.

I've did that to, and got a lot of trouble for it. Might be me that did something wrong, but the fire or smoke or both messed up the map so it would load in the game but when I got close to the effect the game froze and then ctd. I deleted the effects, still no improvement. Weird thing though:
Where the fire had been there where burnmarks on the ground. Then I manually deleted the ambienteffects.con file from the bf2\mods\levels\ dir and everything worked fine.
No smoke or fire though....Shame, I really want'ed it to be in the map.

You're right about the filename. I remembered wrong there. Can't understand why it still crashes. Do you get any red lines in the debug box of the editor if you move around the same area and try to paint texture on or level the terrain. That red line of text would give a hint for a reason to the crash

That red text says something about material should be water that cannot be on land. place texture on water... something like that. It has to do with the fire/smoke ambient objects. I fixed it by getting my backup map, and took the objects.con file of my non-working one, and voila... it works. I don't place the fire/smoke effects yet because of this bug. I'll just work on finishing the map.. which will take forever. I'll worry about it at the end. Maybe someone will have a fix to have fire/smoke effects.

I've posted an article in the FAQ about what triggers the bug and how to avoid it. Read that for starters.
Interesting that the file you deleted also affected the bug. Hmmm

Your fix isn't really a fix. Haven't you noticed in "strike at karkand" how there is smoke effects on ground level? same with car wreck fires... although It's really only the bigger fires I have problems with.
I did notice something though. I add a fire effect to something not too high off the ground. I'm able to walk all around that area... but when I add another fire effect in a second story window AFTER that in another part of the map, that place I originally put the first fire stops working. If I don't place a fire in the second story window in some street later on, the first fire close to the ground works.
