erasing texture from terrain?

CAn you erase texture from a terrain, or do I just paint over it, and the "paint that is on top is the actual paint/terrain for all effect?

to erase, you just select the texture you want to erase and right click (In terrain editor)

Except, I have done that and it does not erase to a blank slate. Are you sure you can erase a texture. I remember it working when I was first painting the terrain, but now many days later, I cannot erase...

Do you have to have the correct layer selected?

Once you save and exit the editor you can no longer erase terrain with a right mouse click, you have to paint over it.
