What is the upper maximum ammount of statics we can put in a BF2 map before it starts lagging?
I know in Bf1942 it was around 1200 objects.
I'm asking because I am making a map. This map is set in the Falklands. In the Falklands there are these geological formations that look like rivers of pointed rock running down hillsides. I am making some of these with the small rock objects in BF2, and overall my map already has over 6,400 static objects.

Just make sure you have your viewdistance down to like 200 or something, you can adjust it in levelsettings.

You should save and try it out yourself. Personally I'd just use a rock texture and paint the path to save on objects :)

Yeah but that doesn't give the right effect, these are tall pointed rocks (1-2 feet).
The falklands are foggy...I guess i'll have to test it a lot then. I just don't want to place 12,000 little rocks and then have to rip them all up due to lag.

The problem that you may run into is when you decide to generate your lightmaps which can take like 2 mins per object on low resolution.

The lag will be if there is alot of objects within the draw distance. spread all your objects out and it will be fine.
I have about 4500 - 5000 objects, took me 10 hours to do lightmaps on medium and final is 4x slower than that :(

I don't need detailed lightmaps for a really foggy map, do I?
There are about 6,000 rocks in a stream going downhill. You can't see all the rocks but approximately 1500-2000 will be in view at a given time.
Trouble is I don't have a way to test lag without singleplayer support.
If all else fails i'm sure I can make a low poly version of the rock formations and use that.

For "single player" go onto the multiplayer tab and create local, select your map and play. Thats as close to single player as you can get atm :)

Yeah but that's only 1 person. I want to know how it performs with 32 players.

Then the best you can do is just imagine it, your current map + 31 models running around :p
