You wont be able to run the game on high settings with that computer.

Put everything on medium somethings on low @ 1024x720

Could be a heat problem. Pull the side off your case and run with it like that for a while. If the freezing goes away spend $5.00 on a new case fan and you should be good to go.

Do other game lock as well or just BF2?

Don't listen to the Alienware guy, do some research and spend $800-$100 dollars and upgrade to a very nice gaming rig that will hold you for a few years. Take the remaining $3000 , drop it into a good investment account and laugh at the moron who just spent $4000 on a computer that will be obsolete in 2 years. When your 65 years old take your now $250,000 investment and laugh your butt off.

What kind of freeze, total system lock/bluescreen? If so, your video card or CPU might be overheating. To test this, open the side of your case and aim a room fan (one of those standard 2ft tall ones) straight into the case. Or something else like that. If that helps, you're overheating. If it doesn't, you still might be... I like Zalman coolers, they're efficient and quiet.

Update all sound, video, motherboard drivers. Do a RAM check with Memtest-86. Do a hard drive check.

Ok this maybe random but you did just install a new video card...do you happen to know the wattage of your power supply...also if you give a list of other components...i.e. CD/DVD drives number of HDDs, PCI or PCIx cards etc.... we can figure out if your under powered or not

In the bios I did up the wattage.. no effect.
BF2 is the only game I have installed.

I did call ATI Tech Help. The guy told me that all my drivers are up to date and that BF2 should not be played on anything less than the 9800 series... So.. let me get this straight.. anything below the 9800 is not really supposed to work.. but BF2/EA/Dice says that it's supported?

I reinstalled my 9200SE.. which is not supposed to run bf2 at all... and look.. no crashes. Just lag at the start of a newly loaded map.

But I would like the 9600 to work....

oh as for overheating..nope that's not it. I have an air conditioner in the same room and my pc runs at between 40-50C.

It seems that my system just doesn't like the video card... what about if I uninstall the game, install the video card.. then reinstall the game? Anyone tried that before?

Ram is also new so there should be on problem with that.

You should not have any problems out of the box

I have the 9600XT 256mb. I dont know why you are having problems. I would suggest that you use the drivers that came with the card. I havent updated mine and dont really plan on updating as my game runs great now.
