Here is a specific driver set that works with the GeForce 6800 Go (Ultra and otherwise) and fixes the shadow problems with the default Alienware driver:

Now, to get the game running in widescreen, right click on your BF2 shortcut and click properties. In the "Target:" menu put this in
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900
Replace C:\ etc etc with wherever you have BF2 installed, and change the +szx and +szy to whatever screen resolution you want.
Now to change your FOV to get the widescreen looking correct, go to your BF2 folder > mods > bf2 > settings and open the VideoDefault.con file in wordpad.
Replace the field that says renderer.fieldOfView 1.0 with renderer.fieldOfView 1.1
Now boot up BF2 using the shortcut and everything will be working perfectly. :)
