Hi all,
I thought I'd post a new thread because none of the existing threads exactly match mine and I'm getting really frustrated that I can't play BF2!!
I am getting in-game freezes. It's frozen on me virtually every single time and most of the time it will freeze on the spawn menu OR within a few seconds of spawning. This has happened about 20 times, only once has it crashed in the menu but that was probably unrelated to the normal reason for crashing.
I have successfully played the game for 10-20 mins twice, but as mentioned it crashes within seconds normally. When it freezes, CAPS LOCK still responds, but I can't ALT-F4, ALT-TAB or Windows key to get out of BF2. The mouse freezes and the sound loops.
I only played Single Player a couple of times. It's fairly good, but there was one time when it crashed after about 1hr of play.
About my system:
- Win XP Pro
- Athlon 64 3000+
- 1GB of Geil RAM
- Gigabyte mobo with nForce 4 chipset
- SLI Leadtek Geforce 6600 128MB DDR3
- AC97 onboard sound
- No virus scanner running
- 802.11b networked
- Logitech MX DUO (wireless kb and mouse plugged in via PS/2)
- 17" DVI LCD
- SATA Barracuda drive (disabled RAID)
- I can play other games like Counter Strike Source fine
Things I have tried that have not worked (the game crashes in exactly the same way):
- I bought the DVD *AND* CD version, both crash in the same manner
- Upgraded to the latest nVidia video card drivers (77.77)
- Moved from Gigabyte chipset drivers to nForce drivers (latest ver)
- Tried Gigabyte AC97 drivers, then nForce drivers
- Upgraded from 1.00 to 1.01 THEN 1.02, and also 1.00 directly to 1.02
- Reinstalled the game no less than 5 times
- Disabled AC97 sound from BIOS (so no sound)
- Disabled EAX and put sound quality to LOW
- Tried default graphics setup
- Disabled VOIP
- Uninstalled Norton Internet Security completely
- Turned sound card hardware accelleration to BASIC.
I had played 1.00 fine on a friend's DVD copy before I purchased the game for myself. When I bought it, 1.02 was the current version so I upgraded to it.
Appreciate any suggestions..
Cheers.
