Hi guys
First off, the game is brilliant, secondally and most importantly I can't play it.
I think this has come up before and searched it but couldnt find any.
I bought the game from GAME and they told me to check the requirement as its not refundable, I did, way meet the requirment. Anyhow, After the installation, and the icon has been popped in the desktop, once I double click it, it thinks then says please insert battlefield 2 disk and disables the whole drive, so if you goto My computer the DVD drive is not there but once you restart its there.
Any idea?
cheers

Sorry, but I don't think that this had anything to do with BF:2. I can't see how the game could disable the DVD drive (but I've been wrong before!).
What happenss if you insert the cd but don't click on any icons?
Does the autorun bring up the BF:2 menu?

Have you run a full spyware and virus scan?
I know it sounds simple and probably isn't the problem...but we always ask that first ;)

The firmware may just be a DOS file with a .bin or .inf file.
You either run it from a DOS window or boot up from a floppy.
best to get instructions from the makers site.
So when the autorun window comes up and you click to play BF2 it disables the DVD drive?
Wow....that's a new one for me ! (I'll see what google digs up)
It explains how to flash the firmware on their site.

wow, I didn't know that you do it in Dos or boot floppy, I defenetly will do it after work. Once I click either play online or play BF2 the loading window comes up then it says that message, "Please insert Battlefield 2 install disk and click a ok to retry" then it closes the window and disables the drive. wierd, first time I witnessed I was shocked! really weird.
I've checked the screenshots and the vihcles and the weapons maan, I really want to play

Now, please don't anybody flame me for this...
BUT
It's probably the copy protection screwing you up.
You COULD try using Daemon Tools and mounting a full or mini-image of the game and you'll probably be fine.
Get Daemon Tools HERE (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/download.php?mode=Download&id=34)
Get a mini-image HERE (http://dl.gamecopyworld.com/?d=2005&f=blhbf2mi!rar)
I keep my DVD on the shelf and use the above method.

This thread (http://battlefield2.gameamp.com/forum/showTopic/8666.php) is from someone have the same problem and got it working by doing this :
change dma mode in system \ device manager \ ide controllers (double click ) \ under secondary channel choose PIO mode , transfer mode ,
Also others have suggested making an image with Alcohol120%. You can keep the image on your hard-drive and mount it just like cd-rom drive.

Hi bud.
Its the way you have your PC set up!
plz run windows updater Start > All programs > Windows Update > When the web page comes up for Windows Update click on "Custom" > on the left side of the page you will see High priority, software optional and Hardware optional > click on Hardware optional > this should give you updates for your DVD if windows has detected it.
(I hear crys of do an OS reinstall :D )

Alright guys, I think I somehow found a solution, basically I translated this message "Please insert Battlefield 2 install disk and click a ok to retry" it means "Get a new drive fool, then try again"
I bought a new drive and tried the game, works absolutly fine, thanks for all of your help guys, its little too late for this thanking message, I kinda got carried away with the game, its best man
cheers all
Same error here... any new solutions?

I had the same problem...I thought the disc was scratched. The drive would work periodically. One day it just died. If you have a dell...and it's a....I think it was NEC drive...I'd have to check my posts...then you have to get rid of the drive. They had a ton of issues. I'll edit this post if I find it.
