I have 2 CD drives A CD-RW (master) & a regular CD drive (slave).
When I first tried to installed BF2 I got an error & it crashed so I tried agian but the CD-RW I was installing from reported " no CD in drive " so I put the CD in the other drive & installed the game just fine.
Now if I boot my machine with a CD in the CD-RW the BIOS will NOT recognize the drive.
If I boot with NO CD in the drive BIOS will see it & load but any CD placed in the drive will NOT be seen. (my comp says no CD in the drive).
All my drivers are up to date & have tried updateing firmware for drive & removeing the drive Physically & reinstalling.
ANYBODY see this before or know how to fix.
I build my own comps & consider myself an advanced user this has got me stumped.:(

This is odd.
I had a similar problem with my old PC. The drive just would not work when I had a CD in it. I did have an error message saying it was something to do with the supplied power to the drive. It could have been it just being old but maybe you should try it using a different molex from your PSU?

You need to change your BIOS settings for the PC to first BOOT from the Hard Drive
Your PC is thinking that the BF2 cd is the operating system (eg XP).

No that ain't it, I only have my HDD listed in BIOS for bootup.

If that were the case then your MOBO would not even start to load from your CD, and in BIOS would have all bootable drives bar the HD disabled.
Again i would urge you to restart your pc tapping delete Key upon posting and check your BOOT hardware listings it will only take you 2 or 3 minuets.
If you say as before your HD is the first bootable item marked in bios then take the BF2 disk out a place any other in the cd and restart then post back with results plz.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is a common problem, its called a dead disk drive, to fix it you need to go to the store and buy a new one. Optical drives die all the time. Its a fact of life. Usually the drive belts break. can you feel it/hear it spinning the disk? Put the disk in with the label facing perfect forward, then try to read said disk, after it says no disk in drive (which is what it says after drive goes bad, if it can't spin it, it dosen't see it) eject disk and see if it is still sitting in the exact same position. Or take a marker and draw a line across the disk onto the tray for exact answer. Even if it is still spinning, It may still be bad. I have a whole stack of dead optical drives that do the exact same thing.

I have my HDD (Hard Disk Drive) set as the only boot device, of course there options to set a CD DRIVE for boot but I have them DISABLED. Are you say'n I must have it set to seek a CD DRIVE as a boot device to work ???????
ALSO IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT CD I put in the CD-RW (Game, Audio or DATA), it allways reports " NO CD IN DRIVE " & if I leave a CD in it & reboot the bios DOES NOT SEE THE CD-RW DRIVE.
My other CD DRIVE(just a reader) works just fine.

The drive still spins the disk I guess its just a coisadence that a 3 month old drive that only burnd maybe 10 disks just happend to die when installing BF2.

I'm sorry SickieWifeBeater dude, i miss read the post and thought that you were saying that your PC crashed.
I now see you mean the installation of the game crashed.
My only defence is previously to your post i was dealing with freezes BSOD etc.
Verdict >>>> I need to spend more time playing.
Yep looks like a bad CD-RW, can you exchange it?
BTW that's one hell of a bad tag!

It must be a bad drive I took it out of this machine & put it in another older machine & it does the same thing.
With no disk in the drive BIOS sees it & windows loads the drivers then when I put a disk in the drive does NOT see the disk.
But with a disk in the drive on boot the BIOS does not even see it & windows does not load a driver.
Time to buy a new drive thx for everybodies help anyways.
As for my name its just wishfull thinking, my wife runs the show & often pulls me off the computer & RAPES me.
