View Full Version : ***********: Under Investigation

DeMiNe0

*********** has been placed under investigation by EA Games for making a series of hacking utilitys that give players an unfair advantage on ranked and unranked BF2 servers. These hacks have been found to pass every <a href="http://www.punkbuster.com/">PunkBuster</a> check to date.<br><br>EA has yet to release an offical statement on this, but a few of their developers and public reps have stated this in the EA online forums:<blockquote>The problem seems to be the way PB handles textures, which is allowing these hackers to create hacks that punkbuster is unable to detect. What makes things worse at the moment is there hacks are using some new code which changes the hacks MD5 on every load, making each users hack unique, and making it near impossible for PB to simply ban based on the hack MD5.</blockquote>We can only hope that EA / EvenBalance does a speedy release to fix this problem.

Hope they get this straightened out soon, it sucks that hacking is starting to grow in this game :(

Ummm.. its cool that you found out that they're being investigated, but is it a good idea to show everyone a hacker's web site that makes hacks that cant be caught??

I guess everyone on the site now knows where to get cheats, in case they didn't before...

Bad idea to post that site in a news on such a big BF2 site like TotalBF2... :(

OK. Do you really think that someone that really wants to cheat would not be able to find it with any of the search engines out there. Ease off.

This really sucks that people devote their talent to figure out how to cheat.

I can likely find and have known of many, many cheats for all the FPS games I have ever played. I choose not to join those childish scum. It is called integrity. Doing the right thing when no one is watching. These people don't have any of this. Probably couldn't even spell it.

Place these people in the class of scum taking advantage of those displaced because of the hurricane in Louisiana

Those sort of texture hacks have been there for every BF version so far, PB can't detect that, but it's not all that special either.

So, someone who actually knows the answer to this, answer it for me:

Can EA actually sue the people who run that site, and then send a scary email to all of thier members?

Of course they need to fix the hack (PB is crap, the only reason it works is because it updates, but this hack seems to get around PB completely), but if they actually sued the guys who ran the site, made the hack, and maybe even those who used the hack for EULA violations, then maybe people would actually think twice before hacking.

All you gotta do is pay the guy a few bucks and you get all his cheats. You're showing people where to get PB proof cheats, and confirming that PB is unable to fight the cheats (i.e. people will get what they pay for). Seems like something really irresponsible for totalbf2 to post

bugga, i hope no one uses those hacks, i dont understand why ppl do things like this (make hacks/use hacks), maybe its to make up for there own lack of skill:laugh: so they have to cheat to beat everyone else, but i hope that EA makes sumthing that if detects u using a hack, it erases ur BFHG stats to teach those hacker not to use hacks, but thats a little extreme, i hope EA can fix this, or maybe they should try a different program, like for Counterstrike:Soure, they use VAC and it seems to work well

Every cheat, every file has an MD5 signature. Most anti-cheat publishers, they download a cheat or whatnot, and they add the files MD5 to their database... When that MD5 is matched in a game, the player gets kicked. That's just how PB works.

I hate to say it but it's quite obvious that evenbalance/PB has told EA something along the lines of "Look, we use MD5 signatures to detect our hacks, always have, and since these files change their MD5 every round, we really can't do **** about it".

It's pretty unfortunate, but that's the fact. These hack makers have hit a home run for the cheating community. It's essentially a new private hack every round. PB has always used MD5 detection since it's early days in counter-strike. It's never been more sophisticated than that to detect some private hacks that haven't been released, and evenbalance has come to find that even though they can get their hands on those VIP or whatever hacks, they can't stop them.

I hate to say it, but EA is to this MD5-changing hack system as what the RIAA is to chasing napster/MP3s back in the day. You're going to see more hack makers using this technology now, and it's pretty unfortunate.

It sucks that people have to cheat to win, at the same time it really doesn't bother me that much only because I don't play in compitions. If I was in a match however and my clans rep was on the line then it would really get me going. I just look down on those people in fact they are not worth looking at...

Well the way punkbuster works, there wont be a fix from Anti cheat publishers. Great another game FU*KED

And I think it was a WAY BAD IDEA to post the website with out loking into what will happen! Thanks for making the weekend of playing Suck

Baseline

It's not just the weekend. It's going to be a while. I mean you have to wonder if PB is even going to bother to keep publishing updates and trying to block hacks when there are hacks that everyone knows about now that PB can't do anything about. I remember that this was how PB made their exit on original counter-strike a few years back. People started finding unorthodox coding ways around their detection methods and PB just couldn't keep up. It wasn't just the same old simple download a cheat and add it to the database routine anymore.

Man that thing has loads of features, even displays the time (something I could do with).

I hope something is sorted out soon. I was starting to wonder if there was something going round undetected, every so often you just see something... odd.

09-03-2005, 06:13 AM
And now we will get those situations when you a blamed for cheating when you are not. Well i hope they sue becuase the patch apparently works on ranked servers which is against the EULA agreement. Its like creating a virus that dissables windows firewall there is no difference here. Sue them, thats what i say. Dont let them spoil the game.

Baseline

In the past, companies vs. hack makers has been a bad situation for the companies. If EA is going to get anything on this guy, it'll have to be related to the fact that he's making money on something that has to do with an EA game. And even that could be tough. I mean I'm trying to wonder just what they are going to "investigate". It's a website, there's hacks (which we know they've tested since that EA dude detailed on the forum what the problem is), and there's people downloading the hacks. I really don't understand what EA is trying to accomplish with this statement or "investigation". They aren't the IRS and they can't see if he's paying his taxes in regards to those subscription fees.

And thanks to wide use of commanders in clan matches, you can't confirm someone is cheating even with demos, they can just say "I saw him on UAV"...

I have to feel a bit good about this as I submitted these guys to Evenbalance a few weeks ago and got a pleasant E-mail reply about them adding it to there database. When I saw this I thought hey why do I know that name, Ah yeah I submitted those hackers to PB:laugh: I know in the big picture it really accomplishes little and another site will just pop up in its place. But it IS nice to see that EA/Evenbalance are being aggressive so it might make the next guy think twice...I can dream.

Well and by who was that requested, by a bunch of cheating noobs I guess. How stupid can you be posting a link here on the frontpage, giving nice information about the hack to thousands of people visiting here. You guys had better post the cheat direct on your ftp then. Think again next time when you post something stupid!

Oh, for goodness sake, go ask your mum which websites you are allowed to look at chump.

Its mentioned elsewhere, its publicly linkable and searchable. If someone is interested in cheating they just have to Google it.

I think its fine to post it here. I want to know the extent to which these losers can cheat. And because EA is on to them, its news.

I don't want some site nannying me and "protecting" me from the big bad world of the internet. I want to know whats out there and see it for myself.

Please don't assume most TBF2 readers aren't upstanding enough not to think cheating is completely lame.

Well, one thing is at least for sure - these guys would be complete rubbish against their friends/peers in any kind of LAN competition, their stats will be meaningless, and the whole thing is an exercise in futility.

I find it funny that people download these kind of hacks (and pay for them!)

All it says is: "Look at me, I suck so bad at this game I need a cheat to play!"
Not only that but.. "I suck so bad, that I'm too stupid to learn how to play... a game"
And here's me thinking only pre-school kids where too thick to learn how to play games... looks like I was wrong :)
There's no other reason to download a hack for games, unless you are just too stupid to play it properly - end of. Only unskilled n00bs need hacks to play well. The rest of us manage to have a good time and play well without :D

So, easy explanation:
You download hacks = you suck ;) (and you're admiting it)

Someone asked if EA can sue the people behind the hack and/or the site.

Well if they have as good a UELA as Epic does for Unreal, it means that any reverse engineering done to the engine can/will result in legal actions.
(anyone got the link to the BF2 EULA ?)
*EULA End User License Agreement - which you agree by, as soon as you instal the game.

The only downside i see to all this is this makes the Even Balance guys look incompetent... I guess that EA/Dice have a contract with those guys, and at the moment they probably aren't fulfilling it. You'd expect a bunch of paid proffesionals to be able to outcode a bunch of amateurs.

I know a few people who have submitted MSX's stuff to evenbalance a while back. If you look on their forums, the moderator even banned a few VIP's out of suspicion. Pretty funny actually. It'll be even funnier when all those people that were stupid enough to pay that guy more than a week membership get screwed when his site gets taken down. lol...

omg ... i just clicked on the link and couldnt belive how many REGISTERED losers were poking around on that site ....

i mean ... like some other posted here ... what does it mean that EA is investigating ??? i think they can do shyte !!!

an alternative would be ... every site is registered to somebody ... someone has to pay the bills ect ... EA should check whos running the hack site and make his name, adress, phonenumber public :p ... then we will see how much longer a site like this will be up

in future ... why not registering people with all personal infos in order to play online ... and if they got caught on a server ... the admin can retrieve the infos ... that would be a hell of fun !!! that would be the way to go against cheaters !!! *muuuuhaaahaaahaaaa *

i would be busy checking ss on our server 24/7 ...every 15 mins

What about Mygot they have loads of BF2 haxs and stuff.

Myg0t hacks are caught by punkbuster, they haven't figured out this new trick to avoid the MD5 thingy.

The really bad thing is that if these guys figured out how to do it in BF2, they could probably get a working hack EVERY game that uses Punkbuster.

Somebody really needs to take legal action against these guys, or we are going to have to find our own website hackers and destroy this site, otherwise, vanilla BF2 as we know it could be totally unplayable (Think AA a couple of months ago, every server you join has at least 1 or 2 guys in it hacking, they are running with super speed, and no fog lets em shoot you across the whole damn level).

Hopefully the hack won't work in mods... But i guess all you would have to do is mod the hack...

I wish someone would hack *********** and erase their site. Honestly, what the hell is wrong with people that they dedicate an entire site to cheating? Don't these no-skilled asshats have a life? What kind of sense of satisfaction does someone get from killing people online using hacks and cheats. They are the lowest form of life on the planet, and I wish they would all get their computers taken away from them for at least 2 years! Doing this kind of stuff is a sign of serious mental problems and I will bet that they shy away from real life social interaction. If they had to actually face reality for awhile, they might gain a personality instead of wallowing in their parent's garage (at age 30) trying to ruin other people's good time.
