DMC

Gamecloud conducted a brief interview with David Yee, producer of the upcoming Battlefield 2: Special Forces expansion.
What can you tell us about the new vehicles that will be put into the expansion?
The focus of Special Forces naturally leans toward an infantry experience, but we understand that vehicles are an integral part to any Battlefield game. We’ve made numerous additions to our vehicle roster, adding the Desert Raider, BMP3, the Hind and Apache attack helicopters as well as various other vehicles.

Be sure to check out the full interview here.

it's amazing how many morons refuse to understand that the people who made BF2 have nothing to do with this expansion.

Interesting...I just hope they don't focus TOO much on the infantry. This expansion sounds a lot like Splinter Cell to me :hmm:

When will they call them Operators instead of Infantry. Special Forces are Operators...not infantry. We're not talking 60 + guys assualting something or moving in colums....

Also, they said that they started the expansion a long time before BF2 was released.

EA marketing executive: "Alpha, so soon? Why hell it's ready to release then!"

I like this part:

Gamecloud - What other new and improved gamelay elements will be a part of the expansion?

David Yee - The two biggest additions in Special Forces are the zip line and grappling hook. These two features give infantry advanced moment options and really bring up the number of possibilities on the Battlefield. Where in the past, hardcore players have memorized common routes and chokepoints, Special Forces creates moments where the enemy aren’t always going to come through the same alleyway or passage. It’s very satisfying to flank another squad, or attack spawn points in ways that weren’t possible before.

EA endorses spawn killing as a valid tactic.

For those bitching about an expansion pack already when 1.03 isn't even out, it's an *ALPHA*. No release date yet. It could be months before we see it.

True, but it shouldnt matter who made it, the stuff we buy ought to be good. You dont buy a game & say "Its OK it sux, cause someone will make a good expansion pack".

You're moron for being stupid. Who cares who's making what?Fact is the first game isnt fixed yet and the next one is already created.

You do understand that people tend to spawn next ot flags, right? And that flags are the objectives which we're supposed to capture, right? And besides, spawn killing IS a legit tactic.

they should really try to at least finish 1.03 patch to build the expantion pack on a solid game... saves them lots of troubles later on when they're debuggin n stuf..

I don't give a damn about any expansion packs until the game is fixed. I find it very insulting that BF2 was released in the alpha stage, and the 1.03 patch is conveniently delayed without a release date while work goes on with the expansion.
I know that they are both being worked on by different teams, but I find EA to be very shady in the way they treat their fanbase. In it's current form, BF2 is just unplayable to me, not physically, but there are so many bugs and HORRIBLE design decisions that I have no fun playing the game.
This is a shame since I have been a huge BF fan since BF1942 was released. I refuse to support this game or any expansion packs until it is fixed.
In fact, I haven't played BF2 more than 30 mins in the last two weeks because it is so damn frustrating to have: bullets randomly miss due to bugs and the lame **** 'cone of fire' system, rockets pass through vehicles without leaving a scratch, friendlies show up as enemies, dealing with 'dolphin divers' because there is no system to limit fire or accuracy when in the air or immediately after going prone, dying when barely tapped by any vehicle, AA missiles never hitting their target, the awful flying mechanics and plane missile system, Blackhawk whoring, no differentiating symbols for AT mines, claymores, and det packs, an abysmal server browser, only one game mode, too many flags so its just one big game of 'ring around the rosy', the awful TK punishment system, the limited amount of vehicles (where the hell is the A10?), the fact that people can circumvent Punkbuster, thus making it useless, etc...
Not to mention the fact that certain promised features in the game were removed at the last minute to put in the expansion pack.
Unless the next patch really makes a BIG difference, I am through with the BF series . Since I already own BF2, I will wait for mods like FH2, Desert Conflict, Battlehammer 40K, and others that seem like they will be much better than vanilla BF2. Hopefully these mod makers can fix some or most of these problems.
You guys go ahead and support all of EA's selfish decisions. That way they can continue to screw us over while still fattening their wallets .

BF2 isn't in the alpha stage. Yeah it's got problems, but let's not overstate it.

I've tested software. This is *NOTHING* like alpha stage software LOL!

I think they mean, "flag points" and not camping an actual spot, where you know for a fact, where infantry spawns. That tactic is pretty lame.
But i think dice, or rather this person, is talking "spawn points" and meaning.........flags.

BF2SF.

I'm feeling really confused about what this expansion is offering. They say it adds six new armies but all they list are the special forces of 6 armies but no mention of their other troopers. Does this mean that you have 6 different types of special forces guys to choose from? Or do you have a standard list with 1 special forces choice?

And how many maps!? That is the most important thing! If only a couple will this expansion offer upgrades to the current maps so they can be played with this mod/expansion?

I'll probably buy it just cause I'm a huge fan but why haven't they gone into detail on these two points...?

What if they are only offering like 4 maps?

INFO that I guess alot of people need

EA = Publicer (mostly)
DICE (Sweden) = Battlefield 2 Developer
DICE Canada = Expansion Pack Developer
