Ok everytime i try and play on ANY server it loads up and says "This server only allows players with unmodified content please revert to you original battlefield 2 to play" or something like that. and puts me back on the lobby screen. I really want to just play this game but i haven't been able to, I've installed 1.02 patch i've reinstalled 1000s of times and still... so IS there any solution and would another disk work?
Before you ask i've used search and nothing helps. I'ved tried everything i can think of.
Thanks.

Also make sure that you patch only v1.02 (it will refer to v1.01 in the readme, etc, but it is 1.02). The file name is: "bf2patch_v_102"

Uninstall BF2, reboot, clean the registry of all references to BF2 and remove the BF2 folder in My Documnets, empty recycel bin, reboot, install BF2 but don't start the game, reboot, install v1.02 and don't play, reboot, manually update PB once again don't start bf2 yet, reboot. I had the same problem and following these steps exactly, remedied the problem. Good Luck.

Unfortunately, I don't know what else to say. You could try a reinstall of the game and all drivers (video, audio, motherboard, network) to see if that works. EA doesn't recognize this as an issue currently. I have search their FAQs for an answer, and turned up nothing.

Have you reformatted? Is this even an option, as I know many people won't do it.
Either that or use a second partition or HD with Windows installed fresh and only BF2 on it. This might atleast narrow down the problem.

09-06-2005, 02:55 PM
Well, if you don't have a spare harddrive you'd be erasing all the information currently on your harddrive and then reinstalling Windows. Please don't do this if you're not familiar and/or comfortable with it. This option may not be for you judging by your response and could leave you with a computer that won't do anything.

I didn't mean to come across the wrong way. I just believe if the CD was the problem then you'd have issues during the installation as well. I'm kinda stumped as far as this goes. Generally a reinstall will fix this problem, but it's not. I wish I could be of more assistance, but I just don't know.

ok, so you are telling me that your md5 sums are perfect, all green lights, and you still have this problem? You SAY you read the entire 12 page post on this subject, but here is a refresher. There is only ONE thing that casues this error, corrupt or missing files. "verifiying client data" is running md5 checks on your files, it finds one that dosen't match, and won't let you on the server, because you indeed have modified content. Find the bad file (files), replace it with good ones, done, game works. Fool.

Ok. Can we just try and help this guy and not curse him. From what I've read in that post referred to by Odd-ball, I'd suggest installing and not updating to 1.02 first. Try it at 1.00 and see if it runs. You may have already done this though.

Back on topic...
judder, my best advise is to follow the instructions exactly as listed below. Then reinstall the game. The whole process takes only minutes. Also be sure to remove all traces of the BF2 Demo if it was installed on your PC.
You can manually uninstall the game by removing the files and registry keys associated with it. Be sure to follow these steps exactly as they appear to prevent accidental file/program deletion on your system.
To delete the save files:
1.
Open My Documents.
2.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
To delete the game files (in the default location):
1.
Open My Computer.
2.
Open the C drive.
3.
Open the Program Files folder.
4.
Open the EA GAMES folder.
5.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
6.
Close all open windows.
7.
Right-click on the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
To edit the registry and remove Battlefield 2:
1.
Click on the Start button.
2.
Click on Run.
3.
Type regedit in the text field.
4.
Click File and then choose Export.
5.
Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
6.
Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
7.
Click the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
8.
Click the plus sign next to Software.
9.
Click the plus sign next to DICE.
10.
Right-click on the Battlefield 2 folder and choose Delete.
11.
Click the plus sign next to Electronic Arts.
12.
Right-click and choose Delete on any Battlefield 2 folders.
13.
Click the plus sign next to Microsoft.
14.
Click the plus sign next to Windows.
15.
Click the plus sign next to CurrentVersion.
16.
Click the plus sign next to Uninstall.
17.
Right-click and choose Delete on the key named {04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B}.
18.
Close the Registry Editor.
Battlefield 2 should now be completely uninstalled. If anything appears to be working incorrectly after editing the registry, simply double-click on the Backup file on your desktop to restore the old registry.

ok, you gotta quit contradicting yourself, you did say "i did everything" and that you "read the hole post" and that you searched and "found nothing" and called me an idiot, but just to prove that I am a good guy i will tell you. You need MD5summer, and the MD5 sums for the game. both can be found in the post you said you read but didn't read here:
http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18235
run that program using the sums you downloaded, and your bf2 folder as its target. It will run MD5 checks against your files and compare them to what it should be. This is exactly what "verifying client data" does, only this will tell you which file is good and which is bad. There are many ways to replace the bad file with a good one, ask a friend for a copy, multiple install, save, install, combine until all files good, etc. After all files pass MD5 summer, your game will work. My last hot tip, if the MD5 is too hard for you, you can try this first. Do a manuall un-install as outlined in this forum and EA forums, Google for a program called Eraser, use it to wipe your FREE space (be very careful with this program), then try to install again. Now, be a big man and appolagize for calling me an idiot.

download these, open MD5summer, it ask for root directory, point that at your BF2 folder and click verify sums, it opens a new window that says "open md5 sum file" at the top, point that to the md5 sum you downloaded above (pick the one for the correct version, 1.0, 1.3, etc). Then click open and you will see it go through all the BF2 files and verify their sums, post a screen shot of the results if you get any red lights on any files.

time for the fun to start. 720 huh, did you have any green lights at all, hehe. Lets start fresh do these in this order (doing these before we start will eliminate me having to ask if they have been done etc.):
1. do a clean uninstall as outlined already in this thread.
2. defrag your hard drive, right click on my computer icon and select manage, then select disk defrag. Let defrag run until finished
3. download and install and run spyware check. I recommend Spybot search and destroy, or ad-aware. they are free. Also do a full virus scan with latest updates.
4.go to start>run>type in cmd, then in cmd window, type in "c:/chkdsk /f " it will say it cannot do it now and do you want to do it on reboot, type y, enter.
5. update drivers for motherboard chipset, video card, and any other add-in cards you may have.
6. reboot, letting the chkdsk run.
7. post your computer specs, brand, model, video card, harddrive brand and size, brand of antivirus, etc, all the info you can, for me to look at.
I will post more when you complete all these.
It is a VERY bad sign that you have that much corruption on your hard disk :(

09-09-2005, 08:14 PM
Ok i've done most of it but i haven't done the clean uninstall since it won't let me use regedit and I haven't been able to do chdsk because cmd says something completely wierd and cuts off heh. So what are the next steps... Oh yeah here is the complete info on my pc.

You can go into Safe Mode and it will let you chose "Administrator"
I have 1659 errors! Do you think formatting will make this work. I have the same problem as judder. Every single server tells me I have unmodified content when at Veryfing Client Data.

Well I just finished formatting and now working on Windows Service Pack 2.. After that im going to install BF2 and test out errors with md5summer hopefully I get none and can install Patch 1.02 and test for errors. If this doesn't work then I will give up on this game. I have PNY Verto 6600GT, 1gig ram, Intel P4 2.0 with broadband connection and I shouldn't be having these problems. I'll let ya know what if it worked or not.

First i patched through CMD got about 75 errors then patched like 7 more times and then went down to 25 errors then ran the launching patch and patch successful with 22 errors.
