Ill guess it has to do with checking to see if you have any altered file that may alter gameplay like hacks, cheats, umodified content.

Yeh, but 1. They never had that with any other Battlefield games on punkbuster and 2. You get it on single player.

This should only happen after, installation or reinstallation of BF2.

If you have a large Hard Drive (250G) and small speed it could take some time to find associated files / information for BF2 on your HD (Particularly if HD not partitioned).
And / or.
If in your BF2 folder under "my directory" you have not cleared out your "cache" file that could be an answer.

I've cleared out my cache file, but my HDD is 120Gig S-ATA 7,800 RPM, 20Gig free defragmented three times daily.

I used to have loooooong validation times. Like a few minutes. Sometimes the round would be finished when the verification was finished...so i would see the end screen then have to reload.

I recently upgraded my computer.

From Athlon 1400, ati 9700pro to Athlon 64 3000+, geforce 6800.

I didnt replace the RAM straight away...instead I used my old (OLD) 512 of DDR.

The verification time went down a little from a few minutes to maybe a minute (but i also reinstalled the game and windows)

Then i replaced the old 512 of RAM with 1Gig of dual channel DDR. Now the verification time is 3 seconds (on single player - havent tried online)

**insidentally, when i replaced the RAM, the swapping disappeared altogether (on medium texture quality)...on high i still get loads of swapping.

***also since i upgraded i went from everything on low (very choppy) to everything on high running great. Thats with a bog standard 6800 - not gt. Although i run at 1024*768 with 4x AA.

****EDIT...i never defrag my harddrive...the swap file can't be defragged with the windows defragger anyway.

Well, that's fast enough m8 to bring the time down to around 30 seconds to load map et-al might you have inadvertently installed PB more than once also recently I have heard Joint Ops "PB" installation on same hard drive is causing some issues depending on how both games have been installed onto hard drives.

IMHO I would do a uninstall of "ALL" traces of, the patch, PB and BF2 then reinstall of them. to be on the safe side and test.

Just wondering if I remember correctly you saying somewhere that you had the 1.01 "and" 1.02 hot fix patches installed?

Yeh, I installed 1.01, then 1.02 over it. Executive Software Diskeeper defrags the boot sector and swap file anyway.

It has been said by some that you should only load the 1.02 patch.
It can't harm to try!
