Pics of Wake Island 2007, Im not kidding:
http://forum.eagames.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=7411 (http://forum.eagames.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=7411)
It looks nice, even like the message it says in one of the pics:
"Only one person in a vehicle can assist in flag capturing. To capture flag faster, all passengers should disembark and secure the area on foot."
Cant wait for the patch.
they mised one bridge there are supposed to be 3 !?!?!?!?!

have you ever looked at C++ code, its not quite as simple as the "paint" program. I'm pumnped for the patch and want it to come out, but to hear you say that, after i took my computer programming class, ****es me off. Code is tough, especially efficient code.
You can't be defending EA. This was one big ****up. They couldn't even get the server lists to work. They could have stole code from BF1942 or Vietnam and had it working on day one. There is no excuse for MOST of the bugs in BF2. The programmers were collectively out to lunch and nobody was in charge.
Hmm....sounds familiar... sounds like EA is as functional as our government. One good thing, at least it didn't cost lives and another $200 billion.

Figured it would make SOMEONE mad. Yeah, i can understand how that all works out. I'm going to college in a year to study C++ only. You may be right. I do have an idea of how complicated programming can be. But seriously. Look how fast patch one came out. THEN look how fast patch two came out; fixing how many or other problems. I know this is going to be a big fix, BUT, i do have a problem with promised dates and then having delays because they aren't taking their job seriously. It's quite possible they're just lazy. And the 'experts' part was sarcasm. I know i didn't make it that obvious. I've heard of programmers that are supposedly good at what they do, when in fact, they're really lazy and they end up messing things up more after their done with their project. Yes, battlefield 2 is one magnificent game. But honestly, if they spent THREE years (at least, that's what i've read) making this game, why would it have so many problems as it does even after 2 patches? I don't think that waiting for the patch would cause such a big commosion as it has IF they never had a promised date to begin with and/or they were forthcoming to their promised dates. It's the flip flopping of what is and what isn't going to happen. This is why at least half of us are griping.

"1.03 Update Progress
In this space about a month ago, EA and DICE listed many of the feature tweaks and updates that are pending for the 1.03 Update. In order to address the key issues as quickly as possible, we set an aggressive release date for the end of August. Unfortunately, as we approach the end of this month, it has become apparent that we will not meet this goal, and we wanted to keep you abreast of our progress. We are committed to making the 1.03 Update as comprehensive as possible, so while it is important to us to keep the release date, it is more important that we take the time to do this right. We will avoid committing to another date, but know that our goal is to get 1.03 out as quickly as possible. Keep fighting soldiers, the 1.03 Update is coming!"
Ug! Looks like no update today. The suspense is taking its toll. The anticipation is nerve wrecking. I belive in EA...I belive in EA....I believe in EA....

Looks like everyone needs to be reminded of this -
Software doesn't just appear on the shelves by magic. That program shrink-wrapped inside the box along with the indecipherable manual and 12-paragraph disclaimer notice actually came to you by way of an elaborate path, through the most rigid quality control on the planet. Here, shared for the first time with the general public, are the inside details of the program development cycle.
1. Programmer produces code he believes is bug-free.
2. Product is tested. 20 bugs are found.
3. Programmer fixes 10 of the bugs and explains to the testing department that the other 10 aren't really bugs.
4. Testing department finds that five of the fixes didn't work and discovers 15 new bugs.
5. See 3.
6. See 4.
7. See 5.
8. See 6.
9. See 7.
10.See 8.
11. Due to marketing pressure and an extremely pre-mature product announcement based on overly-optimistic programming schedule, the product is released.
12. Users find 137 new bugs.
13. Original programmer, having cashed his royalty check, is nowhere to be found.
14. Newly-assembled programming team fixes almost all of the 137 bugs, but introduce 456 new ones.
15. Original programmer sends underpaid testing department a postcard from Fiji. Entire testing department quits.
16. Company is bought in a hostile takeover by competitor using profits from their latest release, which had 783 bugs.
17. New CEO is brought in by board of directors. He hires programmer to redo program from scratch.
18. Programmer produces code he believes is bug-free....

Consider this: EA doesn't really have to do anything. We've already bought the game, and they have the money. So why do you guys think that they would be rushing to get the patch completed? They could care less, because they're not makeing any profit from it. Seriously, would any of you put your best effort into fixing a game without getting any additional money from it? No! That's why this patch has taken so long.

I don't recall them saying the 3rd themselves, only hearing people speculate that it would come out the 3rd. So quit yer cryin'. They said "days away". Damn you people need to stop complaining. As if you know what goes on in making one of these patches. If we were waiting on you it would be longer. If they had put it out sooner you'd all have something else to **** and moan about with it not being enough. GET OFF THEIR BACKS! THEY PROBABLY DON"T COME HERE TO SEE WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY BECAUSE ALL YOU DO IS *****. *wipes drool and feals heartbeat*...whew...I'm OK. Almost gave my self an aneurism.

OK. Don't want to be the bearer of bad news but on http://www.battlefield2.nl/ (that lately has had some very accurate information) has posted the below in Dutch and I follow with a Babble Fish unedited english translation.
Update:
Zojuist is de releasedatum bevestigd. Woensdag patchdag!
Babble Fish Translation:
The release date which some weeks had leaked out, 3 October, do not prove be the definite releasedatum. After testing by closed testgroup has proven to be that there bugs still many in the coming patch sit. The releasedatum of the patch have been moved to halfway these weak. Probably the patch in the early morning of coming Wednesday are available.
Update:
Zojuist the releasedatum have been confirmed. Wednesday patchdag!

Sorry, but you can now get on with your life and not check the forums and normal download areas every ten minutes. Or just play BF2 all night and drop the anticipation :D :D :D

You know it just showed up. No ingame annoucement or anything. The creator of the stat site BF2S.com (Chuy) said that he has seen this alot with the stats lately. He is thinking it has something to do with the upcoming patch and the new alignment of ranks, ribbons and medals.

In your quoting them, "days away" you forgot to add, "a few" before "days away". And it has been "a few days". And err uh... if i'm not mistaken, grrr already posted with his stats at the bottom making it evident that the patch was updated onto his game/ installed on his comp/ whatever. And, to pinpoint your info; No i guess the exact text did not say 'Oct. 3rd' from EA but if, and i'm quoting, 'They said "days away".' at the given time, wouldn't that lead us all to believe that it would be Oct 3rd?

My question is whether the tweak to fix the "run into teammate at .5 mph = tk every time" problem equates to greater difficulty in running over enemy infantry. Wonder how the code is going to be able to handle that. I'm hoping there's something that will recognize friend from foe in this situation. Running over people has saved me many a time from death from noob cannons, etc.

I think you are wrong. Three months is not a respectable amount of time to fix 140 errors, especially for a team of professional programmers. The patch was supposed to be released in August. Its October, and still no patch. One and a half months between when it was supposed to be released and when it will be released (I hope). That's not respectable. Its really just unprofessional.

YEs! lets hope-!
Hi all, ;)
I'm ranked #71 Commander. I would say I'm a 'good' Commander. I always offer up arty, supplies, uav, give orders (which are often declined of course), spot enemy, motivate on 'voip', & I even wade into the enemy myself when recharge time for supplies, uav & arty permit.
I'm happy with what I read on the new artillery tweak. I warn each & every squad in the area both verbally & also with 'voip'. In case they don't speak english, I also use the ingame listed warning. But every damn time some fools always run obliviously into the 'Kill Zone', die & punish instantly for their own error. I think that if a warning has been issued then it is they that should be punished themselves. That might help them to 'listen in' to battlefield orders in the next game. Learn to understand the concept of war & its' command structure & the gameplay will clarify immensely. For those that will reply "It's a game". Yes, I agree. But it is 'the game'. It's the closest thing out there to a full scale war sim. But here we get to respawn. Unlike the real thing:hmm:.
To that end, what about the numerous amounts of unsquadded noobs running around like headless chickens? Has anything been done about this? Some players don't even realise that they are able to 'squad up' it seems. Therefore, they have little or no idea of what is really going on within the full battle picture. Maybe the 'loners' (& I'm not just talking to the sniper hordes) could be allocated a general 'militia' type squad. So, that the warnings & commands can then be heard & orders could be offerred. Some reward or teampoints encouragement to do this wouldn't go amiss.
On the special forces tweak which allows points for destroying enemy assets... lol, it's going to be like that film 'Zulu'. But this time the hordes will all be wearing a red hat :). Only this time I will be waiting for them. Unlike some have said in this thread 'Noob Commanders getting points for spamming artillery & doing little else' doesn't apply to all Commanders. I'll be waiting, scanning, supplying, directing the battlefront near my teams' valuable assets, & if the bunny hopping red hats come then they will pay dearly for their failed mission. I also hope that some reward for defending the teams' assets has been thought out & included on public play servers. It'll be quite a task for just one man otherwise. Especially if he's trying to Command at the same time. On the plus side...I never saw a role for snipers in this game until now. I upset no end of snipers telling them that fact. However, I may need to withdraw those comments if they do a good job protecting my gear in the 'Remfzone' :D.
As for the pressure to release on the patch date. Take your time EA. You can please some of the people some of the time. All of the the people some of the time. Some of the people all of the time. But you can't please ALL of the people ALL of the time.:guns:

Haha. I didn't finish reading, kinda tired. But for everyone fearing malicious commanders :P haha oh well...if they do act out...they're only getting their revenge on the people that ran into artillery on purpose then punished. It's alright though...doesn't change the fact that you do see the artillery sign on the radar so, it's cool.

i most play infantry and well i usually flank em head for a non occupied flag and get it because when ur on foot its a bit stupid to take on tanks helo`s and such. But so many times i go for a flag then my commander bombs me and the flag GRRRR! now he wont be punished sometimes it only takes 1-2 people to cap a flag not the entire force its called tatics(special forces)so commanders dont bomb us plz.personally ithink the game would be beta without arty just get individual arty canons that people can enter or u could have a mobile rocket launcher system(again in 1942)grrr ,you would think the carrier should be launching them ,anyway that system thats not real is it??doesnt go straight up and down so high?so how did u get 50,000 + commander points?

I think people complain because they are excited about the new patch because they love the game so much. EA would be pleased to see so much discussion and anticipation - it means people want to play their games. Some express their frustration in a direct manner, which reflects how they deal with frustration - we can't change them, let them vent.
For my money, EA have produced the best real-time 3d animation engine I've ever seen - I definitely got my $90 worth. The millions of lines of code that have gone to create this remarkable piece of software are unbelievably light on bugs - and EA are quite obviously committed to correcting these bugs and adding the features that we have requested in a very short space of time - although it doesn't feel like it when you are hanging out for the new map.
I say congratulations to the EA and Dice team - and I for one (and I'm sure I'm not alone) want to express my gratitude to a software company that listens to its users and puts huge effort into providing me with an enhanced gaming experience at no cost to me. Thanks.
And to those who bought the game and complained about the bugs and the weaknesses in the gaming logic I say "Thank you" too. Without your input the upcoming patch wouldn't be a patch on the patch it could have been.
"They're not working on the patch because it's free, they're diverting resources to the expansion pack!!"
The EP wouldn't be worth diddly if this patch isn't right.
"Why did they ship a buggy product?"
Because every product that ever shipped anywhere has bugs. Ask any software developer how many bug-free products they ever shipped, you'll see.
"Why don't they just ship it already?"
Because it's not ready. Given the choice of meeting a deadline or shipping a stable build - well, in a month's time no one will remember that they are late, but if they released this patch before its ready everyone will remember that it didn't deliver. They're not stalling, they are working their tails off, they want this patch finished more than you do - it's costing them money.
I'm very very keen to get this patch - I want it ASAP - but I'll take it when I get it and be grateful.
And, no, I'm not an employee... :o)

Im really liking this new patch, but why the extremely large gap between 2nd liut and master gunnry sgt.?
The act of seperating those two ranks will cripple the "high up" rank hierarchy. Can anyone explain this ranking gap?
I believe the makers will be refining the ranking system in the near future.
The new system is great for those players who arnt very didcated, but it makes the game a bit too easy for those who are; it doesnt give the proper respect to those who have dedicated a fair amount of time to the game.

The new system is great for those players who arnt very didcated, but it makes the game a bit too easy for those who are; it doesnt give the proper respect to those who have dedicated a fair amount of time to the game.
Exactly, IMHO it the rule change to the ranking system in BF2 would be like changing the rules in Monopoly to allow people to receive $200,000 for passing Go instead of $200 after the game had been released. It should never have been allowed to happen.
50Euro']Some commanders really suck now.. Arti on 10 blue dots to kill one red dot.. TK punish on again!!
That does suck, I've always tried not to drop Artillery on my own teammates. At the same time, commanders hate the problem of teammates running across the map so your Artillery can kill them and punish you off the server. In this case the abuse is a two-sided coin. The real question is how do you solve the problem so that it is fair for everyone?
