View Full Version : [RELEASE] Jetpowered mini-mod (v1.03)

JetPowered is a mini-mod for BF2 where all vehicles have afterburner jets attached to them. By holding the shift key while driving forward you activate the jet engine on cars, boats, tanks, helicopters etc..

With the release of the bf2 1.03 patch it appears that there has been a few changes to the way mods work. I've taken advantage of this and made a new version of the JetPowered mod specificly for bf2 versions 1.03 or higher.

The mod is a simple .zip file (485kb) that you extract to your \Battlefield 2\mods\ folder (client and dedicated servers use the same .zip). No files are copied from the original BF2 game directory so you have just 506kb used up when the mod is installed. The earlier release of this mod required several hundred mb as all levels were copied over to the mod's folder.

NEW in 1.03:
Install the mod by extracting the .zip file to your \Battlefield 2\mods\ directory.
This .zip file works for both dedicated servers and clients, no further setup required.
You must use "Battlefield: 2" (v1.03 or higher) for this mod.

May I ask how the new setup works? How do you get it so it does not load up maps from the mod folder instead loading them from the mods/bf2 folder?

The \info\*.desc files inside a level's folder of your mod are required. Once you have those .desc files, the game will read the rest of that level's files from \mods\bf2\ if those same files don't exist in your mod's path. If you have a server.zip for example, the game will read yours instead of the one in mods\bf2\.

Only reason I discovered this was because I noticed changes to a level were no longer taking effect. I was working with levels fully extracted on my mod to allow easy editing. Once I packed the server and client.zip, my changes had effect again. I then removed files to see what was the minimum required to get a level to show up and as to how much the game would read from mods\bf2.

Thx Rex, finally I got the JET POWERED MOD running on one of my Linux Servers after all. ;) Thx so much...

Works fine so far. When I see bugs or something, I will let you know.

yep works fine.
but please call the patch 1.1 because its the first official patch.
1.01 and 1.02 were only hotfixes and the actual version is ment to be called 1.1

Well done, ive been playing it today, its great to see a mod that doesnt copy all the maps,

Hmm, after reinstalling my Server with the latest BF2 Patch today, I reinstalled my JET POWERED Server also. Runs fine, except that when you start the Afterburner on a vehicle like the JEEPS, APC for example, the car is going nuts and doing circles in the Air as if it would be on Speed or something *lol* ...

Its more Warp Powered than Jet Powered. ;)

The latest Patch seems to have messed it up, again. Why must they always change things that Mods have to change also. That really sux. I hope the Author of the Mod reads this and, if he does not know about this by now, checks if this is really a problem and maybe fix it.

I have the patch installed now, I'm adjusting things now to compensate for the change in the game's physics. If you can think of any new features you'd like me to add to the mod I'll see if I can add em in.

Land vehicles seem to grip onto the ground a lot more now. Once they get airborne they take off a very high velocity.

Whatever you do, donīt put those hundreds of C4 stuff in it, like with the Stunt Mod. Because when several people are using a really number of those at once, the Server gets connection interrupts all the time. The Engine is just not build for mass explosions like this. Other than that, I donīt know what to add else. I love that mod as it is :)

When is the updated mod coming?? so the jeeps dont spinn around in warp speed. Make the vehicles easier to fly in the air.

I'd say Rex is pretty busy working on the CE Legends mod at the moment, I don't know if he plans to update the Jetpowered minimod or not.

Here is the updated mod, I wasn't able to fix all the vehicles. I am not able to spend any more hours tweaking to get all of the vehicles flying perfectly.

Why can't i play a new map and have a mod activated at the same time? (when i create server)
