First off, this will probably only help a limited number of people, but hopefully it will help someone else too....

I'd been struggling with the connection issue ever since the game came out. I could usualy only play 1 or 2 rounds max before getting disconnected (and that was on a good night). Often I'd get disconnected within the first 5 minutes. I've got Adelphia cable modem, which has always been very fast (close to 5Mb).

Anyway, I started to have some issues with just surfing the internet a couple weeks ago, which I attributed to DNS issues. When tech support couldn't help, they scheduled a service call. The guy came out, and one of the first things he did was to replace the cable modem, which was a Motorola 5120 "Surfboard." Apparently, they have a lot of problems with these, especially with the config files in the modem, which get whacked pretty often. He replaced it with a generic looking RCA modem.

The other thing he did was replace all the master splitter in my apartment with a new one. He also replaced the splitter in my computer room with an "uneven" splitter. Apparently, this is a splitter that sends a higher strength signal to one connection then the other. Since I have both a TV and the modem in that room, he set it up to send the better signal to the modem.

To make a long story short, I've yet to have a single connection issue in the last two days (with one day without the new patch and one day with it). This is pretty much unheard of for me. I expected to at least have a few very brief glitches or freezes versus outright disconnects, but I have get to encounter one single hiccup. Problem solved!

I still believe that BF2 is just way more sensitive to connection issues then any other game I've owned, since I don't have issues with anything else. Either that, or perhaps the timeout for clients is just set way too low, so that too often some lag turns into complete disconnection.

P.S. FWIW, I don't have any routers or wireless stuff. It's a straight connection to my PC through the cable modem.
