how do u get the stug tank with the extra side skirts and the gunner at the top

Here are all the veterancy bonuses for axis tanks.

Axis Vehicle Veterancy Bonuses
Affects: Axis Panzer IV, Stug IV, Panther

Level 1 Veterancy
Slight damage reduction from received penetrated hits

Level 2 Veterancy
Machine Gun crew is added to the tank, top machine gun is now manned

Level 3 Veterancy
Armor Skirts added, vehicle armor is harder to penetrate

Even still a rank3 stug is a bit useless. But enough to supress infantry rushes.

Useless? Pfft. Going tier 4 is usually too expensive for a 1v1. Vet 3 StuGs and Tigers work very well when supported by infantry.

A vet3 stug is still not enough to go against an AT gun, yet tigers and a panther can.

a stug really needs its close infantry support, or a few snipers to counter AT's and ranger/airborne.

StuHs are pretty deadly at the moment if you get them to the enemies base but Stugs are to easy to counter.

Of course it is. You're not supposed to sit the tank in front of the AT gun and keep shooting.

Which is why AT guns should be supported by riflemen with stickies.

Still, if he flanked the AT gun with another AT gun, you're screwed.

Exactly. A group of 3 or more AT guns can almost effortlessly take out an individual tank if it's not supported by other tanks coming from different directions.

To be honest i really like the StuG , mainly just for its fearsome look but in 1v1s it can be really effective if you charge it volks to the enemy's main then just take out the mg nest with the stug and have the volks counter and riflemen .
