I think that CoH is underrated cause many people dont know about it
(when i mean underrated i mean that its not so popular, and yet it had really good scores)
Like everyone i know still plays dawn of war and supreme commander oh and CnC3
but very few people play CoH, whats up with that

To be honest, i think they could have advertisted it a bit more. I mean i only found out about it a couple of weeks before release and was pretty much over the moon when i found out what it was.
doesnt defer from the fact that its a great game, and i never have trouble finding people to play against.

I think it got a lot of advertising. It was voted best multiplayer game 2006 by the swedish PC Gamer readers. (Beating bf2142 lol!)

when you compare games producers like EA who absoloutly whore thier games, then the advertising for coh was minimal.

Yes the mds are wonderful! Right now I'm playing Dcon and Airmaps! The ranks and the mods is whats keeping the game alive. But Counter Strike!? Why are people still playing CS!?

Maybe it could be because the demo is so big.. 1.70GB, I know it put me off getting the demo, only reason I got the game is because a friend said it was good :p

Personally I saw very little advertising for it, but like people said, there probably was loads. I just happened to be looking through the Internet when I saw a review on it giving it a high score, then when I went down to the shop it was like 1 or 2 in the charts! So obviously I bought it.
I do think it's high under-rated, though. Many of my RTS-playing friends have never even heard of it (I've been telling them how awesome it is).
I think it's like someone said earlier, people just see 'another WW2 game'...which it most certainly isn't!

That looks like a bloody sweet mod! Not for bf2 tho... :( Is it still worth the money to get hl2?
I played the demoo which i got of a PCGamer(computergames magazine) disk. I loved the demo so i went to a cyber cafe and tried the full version. Loved that too so i bought the game.

I'd just say the RTS genre isn't as popular in general as compared to the FPS or whored out RPG genre's. As for the advertiseing I go the route and say it didn't get much. I know it won all those awards but so does alot of stuff that I dont know about. Half of my friends go either "What the hells CoH" or "Ewww an RTS".
Woops Im retartedly redundant

QFT!! I only heared about it because I have an account over at www.gamespot.com, where it has received the best rts game of the year award too.
Lack of advertisment and the fact thet FPS games MMORPG's and others are sooo popular latelly , people kinda forgot about RTS games. A couple of years ago , rts were the popular ones, but nowadays, with the technology and everything ... the other ones kinda' outshine rts games. So producers would have to come out with something smart, make people think ... and have fun in the same time too. AND THEY DID, COH - but it wasn't advertised enough+other things.... And I say this game is msmart=makes you use your head, is because you don't see this in C&C3. I like that one too , maybe the graffics are even better, but in that game, you tank=you produce 20 mammoths or 20-30 VENOMS and you just send them to the enemy's base. You don't even have to see what they're doing ... which in my oppinion is not making you use your brains ... = I'm not playing that game anymore, unless I want to check out the cool graffics. :D

I like RTS. RTS games have a good reputation if you've ever played them. C&C was of course one of the most popular games out there. Then there's Ages of Empires (meh, for me), Starcraft, Warcraft, etc. All of which are quite popular.
I've mostly stuck with C&C just because it's fun. I usually prefer FPS games. Get in, shoot em up blow em up, get out. RPG games IMO are a whole other ball field.
Anyways I think I remember screenshots n stuff for CoH. But I never liked the idea of moving the camera view all around the battlefield. I always like the fixed position of bird's eye view. So I think I just kinda flipped the page whenever I saw something about CoH. Then on some other forums I visit some of the members were into CoH. It was a WW2 game (and like others I thought, "Another WW2 game?") and it was RTS. I figured I'd try it out. It NEVER hurts to try a demo of the game. It's free. I was blown away when I realized the demo was so huge. But oh well, hopefully it's a good demo.
It took me a couple hours to get through tutorials, learn the game, and actually play it. I loved it ever since. The freeform camera view is actually kinda cool. I never use it. I don't think it's necessary other than to just go "Hey look what this can do". With me it's like board games. I just assume leave it where it is. You CAN move it around (which is nice to some I guess) but I never need to. I just assume leave it where it's at.
I got it for Christmas, and had never heard of CoH. Man it rules. Yes, I wish there were more people playing it. The RTS genre is not as popular as the MMOH or the FPS right now. It is a little to cerebral for a lot of the FPS peps and to micro intensive for the MMOH people (but they suck anyways). The big problem is with RTS games there is less online communication with the members of the community. Its the relationships built with other players that grow the community in games like WoW or BF2, so with no voice interaction it is much harder to make friends with your fellow CoH players.
ps sledge I think you totally owned me the other night, that was not fun, not fun at all.

It was not adveritesd as much but no games really are most WW2 games are part of popular series like CoD and MoH. I dont think its really underrated It would be alot better if they introduced the movie type thing that was in Star WArs empire at war (combat is almost identical just with star wars stuff).
The movie mode kinda had a moving cammera around the fight from the troops point of view so you could watch the battle more like a movie instead of from the birds eye view or have to move the camera around alot. thats waht draws people in is the first person camera views with all the great graphics. Gameplay is what keeps them.
The best game for me would probably be a RTF FPS where instead of controling a huge battle you are the Squad leader of a 13 man squad you control your character like in an FPS allthough you give orders and set up waypoints on a mapf or your point man to follow then when you reach contacts you give your orders from the 1st person view just like in real life.
that would allow for alot of soilders to be on the field without alot of people you lose when your character dies your soilders can be reaplaced by falling far enough back and calling ina paradrop of troops.

heh yeah there's already a game that is like that. It's not old either. Came out just a couple of years ago. Brother's In Arms, have you heard of it? Yeah it's pretty much EXACTLY what you're describing. I remember watching videos of it before it came out and thought it would blow my mind away. However, it didn't become very popular.
IMO, they failed in the actual FPS aspect. I'm all about realism, but it was just too realistic almost. That might not be the right way to put it either. Perhaps wasn't realistic enough? Well, I think they were TRYING to make it very realistic and it backfired. (I think I got it that time). It's hard to explain unless you actually play the game. It's pretty hard. It was fun, just not fun enough.
Brothers In Arms is a very attention worthy game though. I mean they put ALOT of realistic detail into it. The towns and buildings were all there in real life. You played missions EXACTLY how REAL squads performed the missions. (well of course you could could do what you want, but they tried to send you down the right paths and firefights) If they could get the number of bricks there was in a certain brickwall they would probably do it. It was an AMAZING game in some aspects. It just didn't pick up very well. I thought it was too hard, and I consider myself an experienced FPS player. (I'm no professional, just experienced)
I seriously recommend downloading the demo to the game if you havn't tried it. It's one of those games where I don't regret trying it one bit. It was fun for a demo. I just didn't think spending $50 when it came out was worth it to me. If I got the game for free I would most certainly play it through. Anyways, to get to the point, it's another underrated game.

Meh, I think that really wouldn't be for CoH, its build for pure RTS gaming. If you wanna play an FPS where you can control troops.... play Brothers In Arms
