Two map developers at Digital Illusions (the company that made Battlefield 2) were kind enough to take a few hours out of their busy schedules to play through and comment on each map included in the newly released TotalBF2 Map Pack 2.
David and myself - Niklas - (two of the level designers of BF2), sat down for a few hours and looked closer on the maps in the map pack. We wrote down a few comments on each map. I know my self how much developer feedback can boost a level designer and hopefully we'll see many levels in the future with the same amount of effort put in all areas from overall game play to the detail of where to place small objects.
Read the comments and download the pack (if you haven't already) here. You can also read a few map-making 'pro tips' the DICE employees included right here.

It would be really nice if DICE and EA allowed some of the better custom maps to be used on ranked servers.

Yeah, but then they wouldn't have the total control they want. Oh well, at least the mapmakers here are finally getting the recognition they deserve.

Noo! It's better that the mappacks can be only played in UNRANKED, becouse i just hate all the statwhores, who just think about their own score! I just love the teamplay, what i bearly never see in ranked servers.

And i give a s##t about the ranks, ribbons or unlocked weapons, becouse when the big mods arrive, im going to stop playing bf2...totally.

Well I for one appreciate the stats. It's nice to know how your doing overall, as opposed to server-by-server stats like in CS.

Edit- and dude, what the hell are you hating on ranked servers for anyway? Your stats show you have 141 hours on ranked servers! Troll...

This is SOOOOO important. There is no point in building a great map, only to have it played by a few players. As it stands now...anyone with poor computer skills can't play custom maps...okay...maybe rightfully so.

A map maker would be rewarded if DICE gave their map official status. I think it would be GREAT marketing/business.

But that's just me.

Well, i have been playing in ranked servers, becouse:

1) I haven't found any good unranked servers.

2) All of my friends play in ranked servers and i usually like to play with them as a team.

3) In the beginning i played in ranked servers for weapons, etc, but now i almost got them all (M95 missing, but i suck with it, and jackhammer is locked too, but i got DAO-12) so, im kinda tired of earning all the stuff.

4) I hate all the noobtubeteamkillerdolphinepronebunnyhoppers, who just are beeing to annoying.

If you disagree with me, it's ok, you can fl@me me as you like, but all those things are my opinions.

Btw: Great job Totalbf2 mapteam, your mappacks are AWESOME!

Well that contradicts what you said in your first statement.

ANYWAY, I agree that it's good the community has good custom map makers.

Im really impressed that DICE looked at the custom maps and actually rated them, it's really nice

I would like to add that, the map with a sunken carrier and the other one with a carrier at the docks were both very original and good looking :)

also, I was really amazed by the size of the carrier...when u stand on the docks

yeah, its nice to see some recognition (try and get DICE to review the Map Pack 1 perhaps ;)).

What on earth is a WASP? is it the Carrier?

if there is more of the article, i would like to read it. with as much money as they are making, you would think they could take a little more time and expound more on their likes and dislikes of the new maps. we are making these guys rich and they do a little tiny editorial on the maps.

It's really not the job of a software engineer to editorialize about a community-created map, so why feel bad about the length of the article? I think it's neat to see that they're at least paying attention and perhaps learning something from the community. Something tells me the level designers and coders are not getting rich either. But then again, most of the forum kiddies loathe people with real jobs because they're "rich".

i work hard every day. i would just like more feedback from the developers. in my line of work, construction, the "haves" are always telling the "have-not's" what to do and they expect way more for their money. what would be so hard as to give a little more to people without them asking for it. i am sure the developers spend less energy "developing" than i do everday. anyways, who put you in charge of the forums

right, so far i've only had a chance to play Nan Hai and Straight of Hormuz, and i'm incredibly impressed with both.

Nan Hai i've been looking forward to since i saw the first screenshots on the Mapping section of the forums, and its amazing. The best part is, believe it or not, the loading time. It is so short, and I like it. With maps getting bigger and longer and whatnot, its nice to have a map loaded quickly, especially on my piece of crap pc.
The idea is superb and is something i've been waiting for for ages, and although i've not played online in a battle on this map yet, i can see its potential. fighting on the carriers is one of the bonus parts of BF2, and this should be wicked for this.
My only miffs are a, shall we say, strange translation (the creator should have asked someone to do it or iron out the problems in the english translation - i can see what it means, but its not right) and also the carriers seem slightly strange and cluttered, but it makes sense when you chuck out realistic values and chuck in all out battle filled with Air Units. I love the fact that there is plenty of AA and no jets. And i love the sinking carrier, thats really cool.

Straight Of Hormuz is a superb map also. The simplicity of the design is excellent, its just a head on fight, a meat grinder. The lack of vehicles and the thin walking area promotes head on fighting and not sneaking around, plus the lack of arty/uav/scan is good and puts less emphasis on the Commander as also the objective is straightfoward - attack! Also the lack of assets helps stop Spec Ops people sneaking around and destroying them.
My only annoyance is the seemingly random AA guns... like wtf, there aren't any air units on the map as far as i can tell, maybe i'm wrong. i like the RPK on that little bar of metal ;). I also like the dock, with the boat (maybe it would be nice to be able to go on it) and all the little things like that.

So if, from just playing 2 of the maps, i'm incredibly impressed - i can't wait to try the rest.

If I made a map and it could be ranked, I would make a special secrect false wall that leads to a kick *** sniper spot or something that I would only tell my friends :p

Its a shame that virtually the WHOLE BF2 community ONLY plays ranked servers.
Thats why DICE EA whatever should make some of these available as Ranked.
I downloaded Map pack 1 and 2 as well as Lost Village which is better than any of the maps in the current game and has day, daen and Night which is really night unlike Bf2 grey sky nights.

ALL virtually empty 24/7 , I would love to play these maps!!!!!!!!
But they are just Ghost towns,,,,,

What a waste....

That is so awesome that you got MAP PACK 2 reviewed by DICE. That is so great in its self and i hope further consideration is coming from these reviews in the near future.
