I noticed the other day that one can make 2d cockpit models, he just makes a cockpit view and pastes it on a plane.
Do these look good?
Can one notice the difference?
Doesn anyone have examples of such cockpitviews?

That doesnt look good.
Press and hold down ctrl and move the mouse while sitting in a jet/helicopter.
That cant be done with a 2D cockpit.

Bf42 hat 3D cockpits so why should anyone go a step back and add 2D ones?

Well, I'm talking about cockpits like the American APC or the standart in tank views. Not Aircraft cockpits.
Those wich are fixed on the screen.
It would look better because one can add much more details without wasting polies, and one could make panels perfectly round insted of the 5 sided polygons.
I think the FH StuG III has a 2d cockpit, but I'm not sure.

Example of a 2d Cockpit taken from FS2004

There would be more detail in the cockpit but you won't be able to get shadows done right because the 3d cockpits are made up of polygons and the 2d cockpits are basically pictures slapped onto your screen.

Oh i see. Maybe you can model a nice high poly cockpit and put the render in there?
idk

Yes, I renderd a 3d image onto a 2d plan. This is the result (not completed) .
Its especially usefull because I have to use repeating textures in the 3d version wich doesn't give a detailed feel.

Nice.

It'd be better then looking at some black nothingness.
