Hi Guys,
When i start a new map my PC spends about 2-3 minutes caching files and the game is pretty much unplayable until this has finished.
I run it on medium textures @ 1280x1024 and only have 1GB of ram. Is this my problem? Should i reduce quality even further?

If your playing at medium with 1 GB, I wouldn't think it should be loading textures for that amount of time.
I notice you have a hyper-threading capable cpu, have you tried disabling that in the bios? It's worked wonders for some.
Second thing I can recommend is simply to defrag the partition which has your bf2 install.
And 3rd, you might want to clear the cache files in the the BF2 folder located in my documents. If you have changed graphical settings several times, this will allow your game to reoptimise the shaders for the settings you intend to play on.
BTW, what are your current graphics settings?

try lowering the resolution
try 1024 resolution on high settings

The cache files are in your my documents folder --> battlefield 2 --> mods --> bf2 --> cache (erasing everything in the cache folder)
