I really think that the IRA(Irish Republican Army) should be put in BF2. Since they didn't do that for the regular game there needs to be a mod(obviously),and i thought it'd be a good idea to bring up on these forums. I hope someone would be interested in making this. thanks for your time,

Mitten

Can I ask why? I can't think of any group of 'men' (I use the term very loosely) less deserving to be portrayed in a game.

well i'll with hold my opinions on my siding with the IRA. but if you can make the iraqi insergents or any group similar i think the IRA wouldn't do any harm either.
you must live in england huh?

As far as I am aware, the Insurgents in SF are not Iraqi (they're from 'The Middle East'). Yes, it's implied that they might be from Iraq, but to avoid any connection with real life it is not specified.

Do you really think the families of those murdered by the IRA would like to see them being shown as 'heros' in a game? No.

I'm sure you'll complain that the SAS are there, and they've killed X amount of IRA members over the years, but I'm afraid its not the same.

I'm sorry, but I honestly dont think this would make a very good mod.

(and no, I'm from New Zealand)

well like i say,to each his own.

But i'm also sure that family members of dead IRA members would not enjoy seeing SAS in the game. but all aside, no one is being veiwed as heroes in this game, in my opinion.

guys its a friggin game!!!! i think adding IRA would be a mad idea seeing as they possess/have access to a wide range of weaponry, are essentially organized, and are recognized around the world - come on CDR - no need to be a wet blanket on this one... he's got a point with the mec insurgents - where they come from is irrelevent - they are still there ;) seriously, no need to be a bleeding heart in the modding section... save it for off topic

its a good idea - but from the over-reaction of people submitting to this thread - i doubt if it would ever get off the ground...

It all depends on the demographic of people you want to play this. I mean most people don't even know what they are. (I know I don't) To me it sounds like they are terrorists from what cdr said. So who would want more terrorists in the game. I don't know pick a more popular group to mod after. But I get dibs on Canada :) .

I agree with Cdr, you can't put any specific political group like Al quida or the IRA or the Bask seperatists, or the Chechyans (which are the 'Rebels' in SF) etc into a game like this. You have remain vague.

The rebels are probably the closest thing to IRA in the game, being that the Chechyans have similar motivations for rebellion.

yeah - northern separatists would be a good one... or even celtic militia lol... and commando - "who would want more terrorists in the game?" i dont think you can ever have enough militia-type forces... seeing as almost 99% of all conflicts these days involves them ;)

Yes, they are a terrorist group who have maimed, killed and intimidated cilivians, soldiers, police officers and politicians for a good 30+ years. They consider themselves soldiers, fighting a 'war' against the UK. Oddly enough, their 'war' ended shortly after 9/11 when they realised their funds from America would stop.

And I agree, they're a lot like the Chechyans, and are already represented as 'Rebels' in SF.

But hey, if you know how to mod then there's nothing stopping you from do it. Just remember there's a difference between mod making and making a shaped charge to kill school children.

(Also, include Operation Flavius.)

Most terrrorist groups today are keeping a very low profile, in the view of the war on terror.

At the moment it is very unpopular to be a terrorist organisation... I haven't heard anything in the news about the IRA, Hezbollah or Hamas...

heh

The IRA have decided to come into peace talks now, and decommission their weapons as a sign of goodwill. All BS if you ask me. Lack of funding in the wake of 9/11 has forced them into 'peace'.

Shows how much you know - I may live in NZ, but I'm certainly not a kiwi.

Why don't you help him if you think its such a good idea? Your skill in modding and understanding of the situation in Ireland is obviously unmatched.

Oh, and if you want to be condescending, please do it to someone else - I don't have time for stuck up arrogant people like yourself.

He asked where I lived - and I answered him truthfully :)

I just neglected to tell him that I am English and only moved to NZ in Jan.

3 years @ Uni studying law has taught me to be 'economical' with the truth - helps your argument in so many ways :)
