Its ok but it needs more detail.

hehehe grolshe is right - its just its not that it is low detail - the attention to detail was spent in the wrong places - the small details you do have on it can easily be normal mapped (you DEFINITELY dont need to model little bolts lol) - those polies could have been well spent elswhere (casing/stock/sight system/wooden grip/etcetc )... haha low poly modelling is definitely an art... and what is up with the fire selector? it is waaaaaay off lol

but at least they are free - what is the (triangle) polycount?

Hey guys comon....this is where my skillz are at present...

At least I am attempting to get some models done for all to use.

How many of you complainers are offering models for others..(not just a single mod groups to use)?

Instead of complaining so much, get off your duffs and donate a couple of your (supposedly way better models) to my model bank for others to use freely.

I am trying to get a model bank going for the modding community...
I am paying for the site, and the download bandwidth....
I am doing my best to supply some models for the community....

All I am asking in return, is that some of the other model makers donate a few of their meshes for the rest of the community to use....

Geuss that makes me a bad guy?

I just don't see why make a model thats already in BF2 and looking better.

So what your telling me is that I should never attempt to make a model that someone else has already made....

I like the AK, and if mines not as good as someone elses, so what.
I had fun doing it, and I happen to think in some ways mine is better.

As my skillz improve, Ill post more variety, and better models...and no matter how good I ever get, ill still help others, not put them down for trying.

Yes I may not be as good as you...(but thats yet to be seen isn't it?)
Wheres your model your sharing with the community? (not just a couple of screenies.

I have the full story, with screens here...

wdgz.net (news section front page)

But the sum of it is you take any pics, and the program generates the model, complete with textures!!!

lol

lol

Nope made this one the old fashioned way...LOL

Besides, I don't happen to have my AK on me right now so I can take the pics...

I have a friend in Arizona that has an MG42...on a fed collectors license...
Bet that thing is fun on the old firing range.

Up here In Illinois (butthole U.S.A.), you can't have anything like that:cry:

All im saying is it needs more detail. Youve certainly got the shape right but import it in game and it would look very much like a model from half life 1. BF2's models and most modern games have lots and lots of details. All the little switches to change fire rate and stuff, screw holes, general detail of the model, clips to attach a strap etc. This sort of stuff really needs to be modelled on. Then after that you could add even more detail with a bump/normal map picking out very tiny details like small scratches, areas of chipped paint work, grooves in the wood. However normal maps are something new and are normally done by either creating a very high poly model and applying them to a low poly model through a normal map or by simply using the texture to pick out extra details.

Now im not trying to offend you or have a go at you, if I were to do this I would borrow many a phrase from counterstrike forums like "tis modl s teh sukx0r!" but I wont. The second model definetely has a lot more detail but theres still somethings which can be done to improve it. I do like your idea of a model bank and would hope others take this on and help you out :)

I completely agree with you there. I only ever listen to positive criticism.

Its a very nice model, I hope you continue to improve on it, as most have said here, get some more detail in.

no you dont go modelling screw holes  THATS what your normal mapping is for ;) you are sorta on the point there - in a roundabout kinda way...

People only give their models to mods and not other people because its for the mod. let me give you an example, if everyone used bf2's ak then it wouldnt be that great but when a mod as something no one else does it makes it alittle better.

relax....all they said was "needs more detail" that's positive critisism, something that would help you improve, if you want your models to look better, listen to these guys, they mod alot.

They don't bother me, really....LoL
Im just pokin a little fun at them....

But really, if their stuff is so much better, why havent they posted a few wips (works in progress) to prove it?

Not saying they have to post their best stuff, but if their so great...they should put their money where their mouth is, and post some of their stuff they are not using in a mod for the community to inspect and use...

My work, be it maps, script mods, or models have always been posted for the community to use, or improve on..

My moto is, "" I am here to serve the community.."" Not to prove Im better then the next guy, and gloat.;)

Unfortunately to provide positive criticism doesnt mean any of us have to be good modellers. Ive been around modding for quite a few years now over different engines, and I have seen hundreds and thousands of model renders, textures, maps and the like and have seen both good and bad work. If this were a few years ago and this was a model for an older engine I would have said its pretty good model because models couldnt be as high poly as they can be today. Also due to the fact that Ive been modding for the Source Engine lately Ive literally had to sit down with hundreds of pictures and images from my brain to create maps which look detailed. Mapping and modelling share very similar techniques in the fact you need to know where you can spend an extra 20 poly's or brushes and where you can lose some but not lose any detail. I have done a few models in my time and I will be using those skills for something Im working on right now but it wont be as important as a weapon.
