hi i just got done building my comp.

amd 3200
7800 gt
1.5 gigs ram

anyways im on the demo right now :{

on multiplayer i freeze after 5 seconds, (whole comp freezes) but on sigle player it works fine.

also what should i have my video settings on.
on single player (with everything high) it looks nice but, it also in a way kinda looks choppy as i drive.

also i dont really understand what frames per second is.
and how do i figure out what my fps is?

what is a decent fps?

To find your FPS:
In game bring up the console using the (~) key. Now type in "Renderer.ShowFPS 1" , typing the same thing but with a "0" at the end will turn it off. Hit the (~) key again to close the console. The FPS will be shown in the upper left hand corner of your screen.

FPS higher then 60 is undeterminable by the human eye.

As for your freeze, are you running any antivirus or firewall applications that maybe haulting all running scripts until you allow access for BF2? Make sure BF2.exe is added to the list of "safe programs" in your Antivirus and Firewall programs.

Also make sure you have installed your motherboard, sound, and video drivers, and that they are up to date. Remember to remove your old drivers via the Add/Remove Programs before you install any new ones.

Isn't it renderer.drawfps 1?
Or does showfps work too?

err maybe having all the detail settings on high precludes you having good fps, unless you happen to have a SGI/Cray Super Computer :P

Theres a cool tweak guide here (http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_1.html), which is a good read and describes what all the settings do. Some you dont need to have on High, when medium will do and you get an fps boost.

yeah its renderer.drawfps 1 with a space, no need to capitalize.

The human eye doesn't notice anything above 24fps as being "faster". Don't beleive me? That's what movies are shot at.

HOWEVER: If you're average is in the 24 and slightly above range, you're going to lag as soon as you hop in a vehicle, get into a firefight, etc. If a heli flys at you or multiple vehicles, you might as well just kill yourself and save yourself the embarassment because you'll dip into the single digits.

A safe FPS for single player is 40fps when looking across the playfield with light action/infantry movement. I'd create a second profile for online play however, because you want to give yourself a larger overhead and take ping into account; both yours and the other players. Someone with a high ping can cause the game to lag for everyone, and it will bring your fps down for a couple of seconds. I recommend 70+ for online play.

A simple way to create profiles is go to My Documents on the drive that your operating system is on. Then open Battlefield 2, then Profiles. If all you see is Default, make a copy of it, name it 0001 and then do the following. Each new profile steps up a number, so your second would be 0002.

Go into 0001 and double click on the video.con file. It'll say that it doesn't know what to open it with. Click "choose a program" (or similar wording) and open it with notepad.exe, and click "always use this program for this kind of file" (or similar wording).

You'll see the following:

VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 2
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 3
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 2
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 2
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 2
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 2
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 3
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 3
VideoSettings.setResolution 1280x1024@85Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing 2Samples
VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 1
VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 3

However to not waste space in this post, those settings are actually what I run for online play. The numbers in the original default will be different. You can copy and paste that if you want, replace whats in the file, save and close. Then go back to My Documents/Battlefield 2/Mods/bf2/cache and delete all those files.

Defrag, restart, open BF2 in single player, you'll have to reoptimize, go into the game, quit out of BF2, go back in and play. I can pretty much guarentee that although so many things are set low in that profile I gave you, you won't notice online.

Note: your monitor may not support that resolution and/or refresh rate. If the picture looks dark or disappears past the edge of your screen, go into the video options menu and change until it looks right. This will alter the video.con file automatically.

Hope that's helpful. Good luck!

hmm, i havnt lagged yet...
sometimes i can play on multi player.
but most of the time, the comp just freezes..

also about drivers.

i just put the nvidia disk that came with my 7800 gt.

can someone post me the link of the newest drivers, and tell me how to add them o w/e.

also, when ever i start my comp, a nvidia popup comes up saying

the gefore 7800 gt is not gett suffiecnt power.
we have lowered performance to not cause any problems..

also, i have the card plugged into the pci-e as is. i cant screw it in from where the plugs are, since theres no screw hole. so if i move the comp around alot, the video card sometimes comes out of socket..

im confused :{

can soemone tell me the best options to play the game at

Nabil, if no one answers over the weekend I'll help you out next week (got a flight out at noon tomorrow, wont be back online till Tuesday). Till then, just do some research. The 333 problem is really simple to fix or figure out why you're limited. Overclocking your cpu is slightly more involved. Good luck!

You say your card isn't getting enough power? That's probably the whole cause for this mess!
On the back of your card there's a slot for plugging in a 4-pin power connector, have you done this? It's VERY important for the card to get enough power. If there's no free power plug of this type coming from the PSU, you should use the adapter plug that came with your video card.

Also, remember whenever you're updating your drivers, ALWAYS un-install the old ones first by going to Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs.

Just go to the nVidia site.

http://nvidia.com

It's pretty straight forward from there.
