several hours ago, I was playing BF2, it was working fine. Recently I tried playing it again, and everytime I connected to a game it just shut down Bf2. this happened twice before I rebooted. after reboot, when I tried running BF2, it simpl came up with the splash screen, went onto a black, screen, and went back to desktop (this is the same thing it does with the incompatible graphics card problem, but my graphics card is fine - Radeon x800 xl.) I have re-installed both and the problem is not fixed. and I have also tried re-installing my ATI drivers and t'does not work. And I've also tried with both SF and BF2 DVDs - same thing happens.
The annoying thing is i dont see any reason why it just suddenly stopped working in that short space of time. The only things I have done in that space of time of significance are:
- installing Adobe Premiere Pro
- messing around with microphone settings to try and get my mic to work
- moving a ton of files from a network location to my docs (not Bf2 related in any way)
the computer has been on the whole time, and all I've been doing is on the internet and IM'ing.
please help!!! I can't understand why it would just suddenly stop working like this.

Well sounds like you've done everything that should be done. BF2 generally crashes after start-up because for some reason it thinks your system cant handle the resolution its set to. When you reinstalled BF2, did you manually delete the mydocs/battlefield2/mods/cache folders too?
edit: lol I just read the "it was my bro" part.. what arent you telling us? :P

Did you rename any BF2 files, or move the Battlefield 2 folder from your My Documents? If so, put the names back and/or put the battlefield 2 folder back.
Also try opening the game directly with the bf2.exe file in x:program files/EA GAMES/Battlefield 2
Good luck!

Just now I tried the driver cleaner thing and installed the 5.13 ATI driver, I've tried running the thing from the root, doesn't work. The only thing I messed about with recently with the game was the graphics, ie. putting the anisotropic filtering to high (as opposed to medium) and changing the refresh rate from 85Hz to 100. this was during/after my bro was playing I think.
I'll try re-installing it again, except with deleting the profiles, screenshots etc.

YES! I think I was right, it was something gay that I changed with the texture filtering and whatnot or something. Basically I re-installed the game except this time I deleted the profiles and started from scratch, and now it works!
To explain myself, i think its just cus of all the jive regarding the fact that the graphics settings are in the profiles so the first time I reinstalled the game nothing happened. So just incase this happens to anyone else you know what to do. delete the profile(s)! there was probably a much simpler way to go about all this but I'm not concerned because its working now :)
Thankyou everyone

That's an awfully high refresh rate but I don't know if it is the problem. What size is your screen btw?
Do a virus/spybot/adware/spyware/worm scan
Defrag
Check your windows error log
Check for yellow explaination points under system/hardware
Uninstall drivers, go into safe mode, run the driver cleaner, restart and use Just the default windows drivers once they're automatically optimized.
Unplug your internet and try to go into single player
Good luck!
