Ive ordered another half a gig of ram to decrease lag/loading times. I heard about dual configuration and how its supposed to make your ram work better. How do I set up this dual channel ram?
I have 2x256mb ram cards and will have 2x512mb ram cards. The 256mbs are one brand, and the 512mbs are a different brand (corsair) hopefully the different brand wont make a difference? The 2 256mbs are the exact same model and so are the 512mbs.
Do I set it up...
Slot A1 ---- 512mb
Slot A2 ---- 512mb
Slot B1 ---- 256mb
Slot B2 ---- 256mb
Or...
Slot A1 ---- 512mb
Slot A2 ---- 256mb
Slot B1 ---- 512mb
Slot B2 ---- 256mb
Thanks

Depends on your MOBO. What do you have?

Mixmatching RAM is not a good idea. Just save up and go for 2X1GB instead.

Not to hi-jack this thread or anything... But I planned on buying a gig Corsair dual channel kit and having a third single channel 512 stick. How might that affect my dual channel speeds?

From memory, I think my motherboard is like a 915g made by Intel. I checked out my memory slots and they are different colors...not the slot itself is different colors but the 2 things that clamp the memory down.
______white slot
______black slot
______white slot
______black slot
Hope that helps.

For Dual channel operation you woudl go.
512
256
512
256
or
256
512
256
512
That should be it I can't tell for sure without knowing what MOBO you have. The intel 815g is a chipset, I would need to know the actual board manufacturer to be sure.

You cannot run dual channel at in with 3 sticks, it must be either 2 or 4.

It's doubtful that intel is the maker, it would be an intel chipset most likely.
