So Ive been playing Battlefield 2 since the week it came out and I just recently gave my entire rig a new makeover. I used to run the game at around 30-40 fps on medium settings with 1.5g ram and a radeon 9700 pro.

I have since upgraded with a new Intel 3.4ghz P4 and intel D945GNT mobo.
It also is equipped with 2 gigs of Kingston ram and a Radeon X800xl and I changed everything to high settings, running 1024x768x75 without Anti-Aliasing being on. The game runs well, very well in fact. The fps remains a steady 50-70 on most parts of each map which is great, exactly what I wanted, but sometimes especially when there is a ton of chaos onscreen that number dips to 35 or so. The odd thing is, sometimes this happens when I simply look at a certian area of the map. While still very playable, this doesnt seem like a rig I just spent over $1000 on should EVER be returning frame rates of under 45. Am I correct in my assumptions or is this possibly just the way it will be
?

Just a little side note here, AMD's are better at gaming, FYI.

Sometimes, it seems like BF$ doesn't like to play on random computers, no matter how good they are.

I think your system performance is where it should be, on my overclocked AMD 64 system with an X800XT on medium settings FPS sometimes dipped below 50. This was in chaotic situations with arty strike etc. Since you are running everything on high I believe the main reason for the drop in FPS is your 3D card. You can test this by changing everything to medium. Texture filtering should always remain on high as well as view distance.
