So today I started up the game after about 2 weeks of no BF2. I go into the sound settings to make sure everything is set properly and I see something strange.

Where it should say Creative X-Fi it says "AUDIOSETTINGS_". So I select X-Fi, and put the sound quality on Ultra High. When I hit apply I get a message saying that my hardware is incompatible with the current settings.

What the hell?! I have a freakin' X-Fi Fatal1ty. I havent changed anything since that last time a played the game (no new patches or sound drivers) so I dont know why this started.

Please, can anyone help me solve this problem?

thanks

Try editing your audio.con file to match as follows:

AudioSettings.setVoipEnabled 1
AudioSettings.setVoipPlaybackVolume 1
AudioSettings.setVoipCaptureVolume 1
AudioSettings.setVoipCaptureThreshold 0.02
AudioSettings.setVoipBoostEnabled 1
AudioSettings.setVoipUsePushToTalk 1
AudioSettings.setProvider "creative"
AudioSettings.setSoundQuality "UltraHigh"
AudioSettings.setEffectsVolume 1.0
AudioSettings.setMusicVolume 1.0
AudioSettings.setHelpVoiceVolume 1.0
AudioSettings.setEnglishOnlyVoices 0
AudioSettings.setEnableEAX 1

Otherwise, have you updated your sound drivers?

Yeah, I have the latest drivers right from the website. Its a shame they havent released any new drivers since Nov. 15. (I got this card on the 16th of Nov.)
