I've had Battlefield 2 since it came out and i have had no problems running it and patching. I played the game 2 days ago with no problems, today when i tried to run it .... just the splash screen loads, then it crashes back to my desktop. So i re-installed and re-patched but that had no effect. the only thing that has changed is that i got Need For Speed Most Wanted, i dont think that those 2 programs could be conflicting or something. so any help i could get would be awsome

ah, if it just crashes on startup thats not good.

for me when it just started doing that reinstalling did everything.

mayhaps dont just install the 1.12 patch only, install maybe 1.03 before it.

Delete all of the items in the following folder...it will fix your problem.

drive letter:\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles

Your next login you will have to retrive your account settings from the online server but at least you will be playing again. Your profile is corrupt, happens to a lot of people. Often time will happen if you replace video card or update drivers.

Ok i apologize for not getting back to you all on this, its been a rough couple of months.

To revise what the issue is read below

When starting BF2 the game will crash directly after the splash screen (the image of the tank and the big red 2)

this is what i have tried to fix the issue

Did a complete manual uninstall following EA's instructions from their help site

Have re-installed the lastest patch (1.41) multiple times.

Have deleted the contents of the profile folder in the c:\progamfiles\EA games\profiles directory

system specs are as follows

Intel core 2 duo 2.0Ghz
2 Gigabytes of ram pc5300
100 gigabyte hard drive
windows xp pro sp2
direct x 9c
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS

Any thoughts on how to fix this issue, i know im not the only one with it. The only thing that has actually worked is the complete manual unistall and then reinstalling but this is quite the hassle.

Thanks in advance

**UPDATE**

Checked the web for some more issues and have tried some more things but still no dice

Deleted Battlefield 2 folder from my documents
Tried running the game in a window and got an error message saying that "Debug Assertion Failed"

Also checked the video card drivers and sound drivers all up to date

Unistalled BF2 again, this time i noticed something odd, it showed up as only 12.9 megabytes in the add/remove programs list. quite odd.

**POSSIBLE SOLUTION**

turns out it wasnt just BF2 that wouldn't start, Tiberium wars and CSS were having the same problem. I think i found the exact setting within my Nvidia control panel called Hardware acceleration: i had recently changed mine to "single display" i changed it back to "multiple displays" and bang everything works fine and dandy.

I let you know if this keep on working.
