Just a quickie to pick your brains on. Does a Radeon 9600XT graphics card run well on a 250 power supply?

My PC spec is:

Dell Dimension 4550
2.66GHz P4 processor (533 type)
768MB memory.
Intel 845 motherboard chipset

Please no need to recommend better cards out there (I know!) but I have to balance my old PC spec with ability to play BF2 for say a year! thanks for all input.

I'm most interested in the power supply performance and compatibility with a Dell Dimension 4550 PC.

Cheers.

thanks. yeah i realise I'm not going to get the best peformance from BF2 but a card that runs Ok is the best i can hope for here til i upgrade the whole PC!

At the end of the day if i can get the PC and BF2/BF2: SF to run with the card OK I'll be happy.

Buy at leats a 400 watt psu, you'll benefit from it. Only costs 20-50$

dont listen to him, buy the 9600 XT from somewhere you can return it.

plug her in, if it works yay (im betting it will, my 6600 GT OC requires much more juice and works like a charm on my 300W supply, the 9600XT is older and less powerful and is most likely made for such 250W power suplpies)

if it doesnt work, return it. however, i very much bet it will for the reasons ive stated before.

thanks intensivecarebear my thoughts exactly! I'm buying from Amazon and have researched the 9600XT and found it to work on both the Dell 4550 and on the official list for BF2 tested cards. So i just wanted confirmation! So fingers crossed...

Cheers all.

It is better to have a surplus of power than not enough, if you are running your system on the ragged edge of power your machine will suffer for it.

It runs like a charm, I used the 9600XT for 5+ months on my 250 WATT PSU and it worked flawlessly

I had an ATI 9600xt that ran fine on my cheesy eMachines 250watt bestec PSU. Unless you have some kind of monster cooler on that card, it should work fine.

But...when you buy a new card you will most definately need a new PSU.
