Okay, I'll start off with that I'm a real noobie at building PC's.

I was thinkin of switching from Intel to AMD...cause I heard that it's much better for Movie Making and Gaming, and that's what I do.

So, if I was to buy this processor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103558#DetailSpecs )

What motherboard would I need?...be specific, and please post a link(www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com))

Also, if I would change the processor and MB, would everything else still work fine?

I have, nVidia 6800GT(video card) + CorsairXMS - 2GB DDR400 PC3200 (RAM) and Audigy 2 ZS 7.1(sound card)

Also, on the sheet that lists all the thing I have in my PC. It says:

CPU-3.2P4EE800 - INTEL PENTIUM 4 EXTREME EDITION 3.2GHZ 800MHZ FSB

MB-INTELD875PBZREV2 - INTEL D875PBZ MOTHERBOARD AA#C26680-206

Please explain, what that all means, and answer the question ;)

Do you have any lag when you play games? if you dont I dont think you should waste your money on upgrading your CPU since it is fast, not the fastest but pretty good.

Instead you should SLI some 7800's or just get one 7800 wiith 512 of mem?

Just upgrading your motherboard alone will open up alot of possibilities. Intel boards are designed to work well, but very conservative. A good motherboard will let your processor run a little without even OC'ing it. Then if you feel like getting a little extra "umph" out of it, OC it. Save your money for when everything switches over to faster ram and it's affordable. The fx-57 is an awesome processor, and it is the one to beat for games. But really? The money for this stuff is insane. Spend $200.00 (and that a high-end quote) and get a new motherboard. If it is still not pleasing you, by all means go for the high-end stuff.

^^ what's "OC'ing" ?

I don't get any lag when I play games, except for BF2...so I can't run on max settings, but CSS runs perfectly fine...on max.

Another question: what is better for gaming/movie making....AMD or Intel?

OC'ing is overclocking. Your processor is fine. Trust me, I have no issues w/ this game. Get some more use out of it before you go over to the dark side, like everyone else, LOL. AMD is better for gaming, Movie Making? I don't know. Just go buy a new motherboard and get some experience in hardware changes. It is alot of fun.

AMD is better for gaming but Intels tend to do a little better with creating video. I would choose AMD though if this is mainly for gaming, they do pretty good on movie making too.

Oh and OCing is Overclocking. Overclocking is a way of pushing your hardware (usually your CPU or GPU) to its limits. It is a dangerous process though and may ruin your hardware, OCing is meant for advanced users and you should do HEAVY rasearch on it before doing it.

Also, don't go and buy a new CPU just yet. AMD is going to release their new socket (Socket AM2) around April so is I were you I would wait until then to shoose your new CPU and Motherboard.

Also, consider dual-core. It may not help in games currently, but games are slowly starting to take advantage of its capabilitites. Dual-core is the way of the future.

Dual-core is the way of the future.

That quote reminded me of the movie, Aviator.
"Way of the future...way of he future....way of the future..."

Umm...I heard that dual core sucks for games. Right now. And, won't the new AMD proccessor/socket be more expensive?!

Yea it'll be a little more expensive but s939 isn't going to be around after another couple years, so might as well go AM2.

And yes, I said in my other post that dual-core isn't supported by games right now, but it will in the near future. Some games like COD2 and Quake 4 are already taking advantage of it. Pretty soon most games will support dual-core so it's smart to start thinking about it.

oooh an fx57... darn if only u could oc then u could get an opteron 144 or something hehe...

buying a new mobo (i like the a8n sli premium) would mean the switch to skt 939...dont get 754... then u can have amd dual cores as well which in future gaming is a better bet and i hear they oc well... if ur gonna spend a lot fo money on a processor u might as well make it dual...and get urself a tasty pci express 7800gtx or something hehee
