Animated Avatars

I read the avatar faq but did not notice anything that said that we may not upload animated avatars, but when I tried to do so I got a message saying that this was not allowed. So is it or is it not? And if not, why?

I had turned it off because I didn't really see it necessary for animated avatars, seeing as some may become annoying.

But if you have an animated sig thats not annoying, you can ask a nice moderator to change it for you. :)
