shut down at intro

ok well, ive got a bit of a problem: my game shut down whenever i clicked 'join' on the multi player screen. then i reinstalled and now it shuts down when the screen first goes black when starting up the game. this has never happened before. anybody know how to fix this?
i have a dell dimension 8400, pentium iv, 3.00 ghz, 512 mb of ram, ati x300, and sound blaster live 24bit. if you need anymore info feel free to ask.

nvm fixed the problem, i installed the newest patch and it works like a charm
