Hey fellas,

I just installed the latest drivers for my Realtek AC'97 onboard chip and now I notice that when I play with EAX turned on, the all 3D sound is very loud. For example, if a tank is driving about a mile away, it sounds like he is 10ft infront of me. The surround sound still works, it's just the volume levels are all messed up.

Can anyone help me out with this?

Oh yeah, I have tried reinstalled BF2 and it did not help. Also tried creating a new account, didn't help either.

Don't know, but I have an Audigy 2 (read: obvious EAX support), and I honestly don't notice much if any difference in sound quality (i.e., better sound effects, etc.) with EAX enabled. And this is with my card connected to my 5.1 Klipsch 500W system (http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=712). :p

In other words, I hope you find a solution, but honestly, you should just keep EAX disabled: you won't miss much (IMO).

If I play with EAX disabled, all of the voices are crackly and stuttering.

The reason I upgraded to the newest version of the driver was to hopefully get my mic workiing with 5.1 surround (if I switch my dxdiag sound settings to basic, I can use my mic fine, but then I get no 5.1 surround).

I am thinking of maybe just getting a new soundcard.

Really? That's odd.

Okay, well not related to your specific problem, but related to your audio device, EA recommends lowering the hardware acceleration.

Check out their support page on the subject:

The voices on my machine become crackly when I put the renderer to the hardware. IMO, stick to software.
