I've just installed the new 1,2 patch... when I start the game the screen goes black than I see a huge mouse cursos for a sec. than it disappears and the game closes without any error report...:|:
Previously I have renamed the BF2.exe file, so there is a chance that the patch did not update it :( It is 7,05MB in size, donno what to think... how bid is yours?
I've tried updateing the 1,12 patch but it doesnt help... the game still crashes and the 1,2 patch sais it needs the 1,12 version. whats wrong??!
Same problem, good work EA.

I too had this problem, and I dont know if it has anything to do with changing the BF2.EXE, but i changed mine also.
Anyway, a clean install, followed by 1.12 and then the incremental worked fine. You could try downloading the full patch and do that. Might be easier.

Why would you change the file name? Just curious.

You are joking aren't you? I mean, how exactly do you expect the patch to find bf2.exe if you have renamed it ?

Same problem here, I also renamed my BF2 exe file - reason being, is that a tweak guide mentioned ATi Catalyst drivers 'detect' the exe as Battlefield 2 and apply optimisations on the fly.
Supposedly, the game runs better once the exe is renamed - did for me.
I have just uninstalled SF and BF2 and am just about to finish the re-installation of everything.... damn, now I have to listen to that damn guy telling me how to play the gaem again :(

Why didn't you just just change the file name back to bf2.exe rather than reinstalling everything?

I tried that, but it still crashed, so like the OP said, it probably failed to patch.
No biggy though, the re-install didn't take long, lesson learnt ;)

Doh, forgot about that part. I did that as well, going to have to change that back before I do the patch later today. .

Why would he use a modified exe when he can get a mini image?

Because there was a thread in the past that explained that if you renamed the BF2.exe file to something else it'd increase the gfx performance.
Everytime a patch comes out though the support forum files up with people who tried to apply a patch over a no-cd crack version of BF2.exe

I couldnt get the mini-image to work. I still run off the disc. But i renamed my file to hide it from the nVidia drives. Which did seem to help.

Got mine working a treat last night - yay.
Patch is very good imo, and the game runs sooooo much better now - not tried SF yet though, that will be the real test.
Just need to remember to rename Game.exe back to BF2.exe on the next patch - lol.

P.S. Anyone know how to shut that guy up, the one who give you in-game audio advice on how to play, he's doing my head in :(

I like the way that those of you who renamed the exe are blaming DICE/EA somehow.

Seconded, if you go around changing filenames or modifiyinh files and then Blaming Dice for it, Learn to take responsibility for your actions.

Changing the BF2 (NO CD crack) or it's name will make the update fail indeed. You will have to reinstall BF2 completely. IMO you should always try a complete BF2 reinstall before you consider something as a problem.

I'm having problems with the new 1.2 patch also.
OK, I uninstalled BF2, used Computer Cleaner to clean out any BF2 residue (registry files, etc.), Defragged hard drive, and then reinstalled BF2.
Then I ran the FULL VERSION 1.2 patch.
Game starts fine. But when I try to join a server the game crashes to desktop (CTD) during the map loading.
I've tried on 2 different servers 3 times now and the same pattern keeps repeating: Game begins to load.....gets to around the "loading geometries" phase....then CTD.
Any advice on what may be the problem?
btw- I tested the reinstall and it worked just fine before I patched it. DO I need to download the patch again?
Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
KickPhucker

Hi,
I would try renaming your "Battlefield 2" folder within My Documents - allow the game to create a new one.

Well I'm having the same problem. The screen goes black just before the map begins to load. I haven't changed any names, installed any no-CD cracks or anything like that. The last thing I did was run Battlefield2_code.exe in my Support folder. (I ran that .exe because I saw people suggesting that to help fix the invalid CD-key error). -_-

I renamed the file back to the origonal before running the patch and didnt have a problem.
