BF2 1.2 Graphics

Hi all,

Since the patch v1.2 has come out I have the most extreme graphical lag. It can't even load properly and even the music lags.

Now I may have an Athlon 1800+ XP, gig of RAM, and a Radeon 9250 gfx card but before 1.2 I could play it... now I can't!

I had it overclocked but result all to defaults!

last night i played bf2 and it was laggin, the guy said he was running off a cable modem so i think a lot of the new servers arent legit the fast ones need to be switched, my opinion

my 9250 ran with over 30fps before the patch

now this so called improve performance on static mesh sure improved my urgency to buy a new card
but i don't have the $$ which EA has been sucking out of my pocket

i sure hope a hotfix comes along before i throw bf2 out of the window

The Only Reason Y Ur Getting Crappy Video Is Because Ur Video Is Not Supported. Which Means, It Is Not Going To Run The Game as It Wants It To Be. They R Below Minimum.
Yes It Does Say Above 8500... But It Really Says 8500/9550/9600/9800 And Up R Supported.

in terms of cards 9200/50 is newer than 8500 in fact 8500 is sitting comfortably in the discontinued list on ATI's website and DICE officially supported 92xx when the demo came out

if they suddenly stops support for it now then its complete utter bs
9200/50 is not geforce 4 though it is a budget card. Its capabilities is good enough to run bf2 at the minimum req. UNLESS dice changes it! (there are many 7800 users also complaining about massive lag, should they get a new card???)

we are not complaining because our video cards did not perform well on Battlefield 2, in fact with my 9250 performed so well that my BF2 score is able to surpass yours

we are here to seek help if the developers are willing to give any on a rare issue

ok heres my story....i install 1.2 patch and cant load teh friggin game..im freaking out but hours later..find out its cuz i cant rename bf2.exe...ok...so that makes sense...im not angry or anything...then i install the game...plays fine...a lil lag here and there, but thats expected...i have a poor system....then i exit out of the game to eat or something..come back...and get a invalid cd key error and im like WTF?1? I try the solutions in the sticky..does help..so i have to reinstall everything..and what do u kno...,buildings disappear...massive drop in fps unless im staring at the ground/sky...argh

I'm getting more lag with 1.2, my other PC Athlon 2600+ 512mb RAM Radeon 9600 128mb is getting lag. A friend of mine, X1900XTX in crossfire, 4GB RAM FX-60 (I know, A total waste of money as when Dx10 is released every card will be outdated....) he used to run BF2 at an average of 130FPS now he is scarcely getting 50FPS....

Im an Ati guy, i got a X850XT (Oc'd to PE settings), AMD 3200+ XP, 2GB Ram (Recently found out some of my ram is dead...wtf?). Pre 1.12 the game would run great, now it runs like a brick. The graphics on counter strike are far better and on higher settings, i can barely run BF2 on 1152 x 864 with 2xAA and high texture, which is rediculous.

I think EA are screwing this game in the butt, as if they have to cut corners with the amount of money they have no doubt made.

Yea most of my other games run fine with medium to high etc but battlefield for some reason is a pain :) i think its more fustrating because of the fact I love this game and want it to run nice.

My friend has all the money in the world... He used to have 2x 512mb GTXs. then the day the XTX came out he got one and got the crossfire edition. He is planning on getting 2x 7900GTXs. He also had a X2 4800+. He wastes his money so quickly.

Anyway, I get a brilliant performance (not on BF2) on games like Quake 4 Unreal Tourny 2004. It was worth the money definately. The X2 is really useful because I can re-install BF2 (lol) listen to music, burn a DVD, and search the internet with little extra lag. Very nice indeed. X2 is useful for me as I seem to be re-installing BF2 every month! :p All we need now is a dual-core BF2 patch :p

I was thinking about going ATI later in the year until I found out that it won't be able to use all the Vista and Dx10 features so it would be a waste of money.

i love the new patch 1.2 though, better performance and better loading times although my loading times were always good... but one thing they didnt fix my flickering graphics problem.. i've searched everryywhere it's not overheating because it started with the 1.12 patch.. kinda hoped that they'd fix it.. ah well lets wait for the next patch :P

Why can't you guys get it through your heads... this is not a problem with our videos cards, it is a compatibility issue. Besides,some of us don't have $100-$300 to spend on a new video card, when we already meet the minimum requirements for running Battlefield 2. As a matter of fact, Battlefield 2 ran pretty well on my system before this patch, and I've seen other users here with really good systems, and they are having this same problem.

My birthday is coming up, and I'm going to get an X800XL, hopefully, but this is still unacceptable. Sure, EA could use the excuse that the cards that are having problems with 1.2 aren't "supported" by them, but if they actually practiced some sort of business ethical code they would make sure their game worked for as many people as possible.

Even though I think of EA as a mostly cold-hearted, greedy Micro$oft-ish entity, I actually do think they would make some kind of hotfix for people with this problem, depending on just how big the problem is. I don't think they intended to or knew they would destroy the ability for a large part of the community with ATI 9100 and 9200 cards to play BF2.

I'm really unhappy with the laggy Framerates I'm getting with 1.2 and I have pretty solid hardware.

I have a P4 3.4, 2 gigs of ram, a X800XT PE (Sapphire) and when BF2 came out I could run everything on high(cept textures=medium) with 6x AA at 1280x1024 and the framerates were great. With every patch I've had to sacrifice something and at this point, even on medium settings at 1280x1024 with 2x AA the framerates will not stay consistent.

The game will play fine for a few moments then Framerates will drop to the 10-15 range for a brief period, mabye 10 seconds, then come back.

I'm going to do some more testing tonight on Low settings and see if I can get the framerates to stay solid and not drop down, then I guess I'll start upping the setting one by one, but I only have so much patience.... Hate the fact that when you adjust settings it takes 5+ min to see how it affects the game.

Nah, it's not strange. Don't you remember those little NVidia inserts in your BF2 case when you bought it? I'll bet any amount of money that NVidia is sponsering BF2 to be as compatible with their cards as possible, and either EA is neglecting ATI users or they are purposely trying to make NVidia more appealing.

When you change the graphical settings BF2 attempts to optimize the shaders used in the game for the best performance on your particular hardware. These optimized files are stored in your \Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\ directory. If you've changed your settings several times, I recommend you finalize your changes, close BF2, go to the above directory and delete everything under the \cache\ directory. The next time you start the game and play single or multiplayer, your shaders will be optimized again. Close BF2 one more time, defragment your hard drive, and now things should be much smoother and load much faster the next time you go to play BF2

My Hud is flickering during gameplay and sometimes there are green artefacts, that often appear for a very short but disturbing time.

Im running on a 9800pro. A bit old card, however, everything was fine before the patch, i really hate EA.

Lol @ trying to run good on an ati 9200... If you're having trouble with a game that game out 8 or so months ago, how the hell do you think you'll be able to play with the same card in 2006? And how do you think you'll be playing newer titles such as Quake Wars or UT 2007, my friend is exactly the same, he has a 9550, and he thinks that his '' ram '' (1 gig) is the problem of his lag.. He's trying to run bf2 at medium/high. It's a fricken joke really. He bought the card for like $60... Just buy a GOOD CARD, i don't care how old you are, you can still make money if you're 12...

Oh, and i don't need the '' just because you have a good card doesn't mean you have to be all mean to us blah blah blah... '' This is comming from somone who used to play on INTEL ONBOARD and an nvidia 5700 before he saw the light, and actually got a card worth having like the 6800... I used to be the same way.. '' i just want to run the game '' But trust me, just running the game isn't as fun as running the game like it's supposed to be played.. I still need to upgrade my ram aswell... I’m getting stuttering/lag/chugging!!

I have a ten meg connection and for months the game ran perfect on top settings until a few weeks ago when many experienced that sound issue.

The recent patch has done nothing to in fact even more people are comming forward now with complaints...

Even though the sound issue has stopped, the irregular lag has remained.

It plays perfectly fine single player just as it once did on multi...

I think this is something that EA or however is going to have to fix!

My comp could run this game on top specs at max res, now it laggs like nothing I've ever experienced online....

Well I play at 2048 resolution with 4 x AA and 8 X AA and changed ingame settings to ULTRA HIGH and on average im getting anywhere between 50 - 100 fps most maps. Some maps give higher fps then others...Karkand gives me about 80 fps average.....Sharqi around 60 fps.

firstly im getting more lag and from what i read alot of people are......
i have amd 64 3800+, 1 gig gskill ram dual channel, 6800 gt.....
should i really be getting lag now?

secondly.... the grenade launcher seems to be messed up... the grenades ride walls... i mean if you shoot it at a wall it will not blow up right away it will guide along the wall and blow up when it hits the ground.. you can also bank shots with the gl now.. i dont remember reading that that was part of the patch... but could come in handy but kinda wierd to get used to....

but mostly im getting strange smoke effects with the grenade launcher... when you shoot a grenade you should get a poofy smoke out the end of the gun... followed by a long trail line of smoke from the grenade... (lol poofy.... the oly word that makes sence).. all is good in single player but when i play online on any server im getting strange smoke. it looks like lines in the shape of a x or star... like a flat image of smoke instead of a smoke like stream..... ne one else getting this problem?

by the way the first two pics are in single player and the second two are online in multi player in the exact same spot to show what i mean......

Yea, I know, but tell that to the people that are thinking about upgrading their Ram in the vain hope of fixing this lag issue....
