I'm having the same problem. Interestingly, I can't even roll back to the 1.12 patch. It crashes at the 62% mark. I'm pretty sure it's a setting or program missing so guess my night is spent on fixing what used to work. I'm not blaming the patch though. Not yet =P

if this has been happeneing only, ONLY since 1.2, go back one by hitting the Back button on your browser, read the million other threads.

Well I never get to see the arrow it just minimizes as soon as it starts the first EA intro video. It used to happen on occasion before the patch now it happens every time.

this happens when you rename bf2.exe and then apply the patch. you have to reinstall EVERYTHING - bf2, sf, gamespy, patch, etc.
EDIT: why the f*ck did i listen to that stupid advice of renaming bf2.exe??!! scrwed me too!

I didn't rename anything and I've tried installing everything twice already. I give up on BF2 and basically everything else game related that's held me captive since I got interested. It's rediculous. Iv'e tried so hard to be patient. Good luck to everyone having the same problems that I am. Hopefully someone will either find a fix, or figure out what we're doing wrong before I sell my computer.

Since TBF2 sucks now and I can't edit posts, here is an edit to my last post: edit: and no that's not an idle threat or anything so silly. Honestly, if my computer sounds good to you and you're interested, send me a pm. I'm very literally about to sell this. If I can't fix the problem by friday all of my hardware is up for sale.

Between $1,300 and 1,500. That's a lot less than I paid for it and that's for the exact stats in my sig.

I had the same problem and all I did to fix it was to rename my My Documents\Battlefield 2 dir to something like Battlefield 2.old

Hmmm...
I noticed you have an X-Fi like me. I was using the latest beta drivers which just refused to let BF2 run so I did a complete uninstall (edit: of the drivers) and went back to the latest supported drivers.

Yeah I'll try creative and nvidia based offical drivers tomorrow. It's the only thing left I can think of causing problelms.

Hmm, I have an X-Fi too, but I am using Creative's latest released drivers.
My story is similar: I downloaded the incremental patch and installed it to a previously working install of BF2. I got a "Can't find Install folder" error so the patch would not install at all. I have it installed on my F: drive, btw.
I go for the complete uninstall -- registry cleaned and so on. I am on my 2nd install, and I can't even get BF2 1.0 to load out of the splash screen at the beginning. Straight crash to desktop.
I have: AMD 64 3200+, Gigabyte 6800GT, 1.5 MB RAM, WinXP SP 2 (with the latest security updates from today), and the Creative X-Fi Xtreme sound card (also onboard sound enabled for TeamSpeak).

YOU WERE RIGHT. I DID CHANGE THE DIR NAME AND THEN I CHANGED IT BACK TO BF2. THEN I PATCHED IT AGAIN (WITH THE 1.2 FULL PATCH) AND THEN IT WORKED!!!!
THANX!
MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE THE SHORTCUT DIR TO IF YOU'RE GONNA FIX IT.
