You probably don't need to re-format...probably uninstalling the game completely, then defragmenting, then installing from disc and patching to v1.2 would achieve the same effect...so long as you aren't running tons of crap on your computer.

reformating is basically cleaning ur whole harddrive
*edit* i dont recommend reformating because it usually means that u have to reinstall all ur programs since a lot of them have to do with ur registry and stuff
*edit* plus ...easy is a bad title for it :) itll take a whole day to do this

I thought there was a "NEW BREAKTHROUGH" here....but I was wrong.

There rarely are breakthroughs...sorta like that thread in General about 83.90 drivers giving 20% FPS boost...everybody is so desperate to get better performance out of this poorly optimized game, that they'll reach for anything.

If you have to ask you shouldn't do it. Maybe you should play BF2 on a console.

Reformatting is the first (or early) option to fix things for people who don't know ****e about computers and the last option for those who do. It should always be a last resort. If you reformat it is just a (long) shortcut to something that could have been solved by other means.
I can't believe that anyone would reformat a drive thinking it will fix BF2 problems. There are many other things to try first. Driver updates (or rollbacks) with full uninstall of them first. Possibly Driver Cleaner in between (I don't). Make sure that you don't have unnecessary background processes running (Antivirus, etc). Make sure that you don't have any spyware (use Adaware or similar). Defragging hard drive after install or programs. Do regularly scheduled Defrag. Possibly get Disk Keeper instead of the standard defrag (I don't). Uninstall and reinstall of BF2 and patches, then defrag.
Also look at the TweakGuide for BF2 (http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_1.html).

*edit* plus ...easy is a bad title for it :) itll take a whole day to do thisIt will take an entire day if it goes smoothly. Which it never does.... lol... On top of that, it would probably take a week just to get the same amount of stuff that you had before you reformatted.
Unless your computer is running slow and overdue for a reformat, I don't recommend this method...
