I usually play Counter-Strike and BF2. About a month ago my internet (I presumed) crapped out. BF2 and CS both went from running flawlessly to me being able to stay in a server for maybe on average 10 seconds. It's unbelievably frustrating. At the time I thought it was just my cable internet crapping out for a day, but it has been going on for a month (actually, maybe more).
I got so frustrated I started trying nearly all of the games I own. It works fine on single player modes, but multiplayer is a mess. All of them lag and it really gets annoying. The thing is though, that my brother who plays games such as starcraft and C&C generals doesn't lag at all. I tried playing when no one was using the internet but me, it didn't help at all. Same exact thing. I even lag out of vent doing sumple things like listening to music on my comp.
One of my friends decided it may be my comp.
AMD Athlon XP 2200+
1.0 GB PC 3200 DDR 400 RAM
RADEON 9600 128MB
60GB harddrive (really old)
Some old motherboard
My hard drive is nearly filled to capacity with music and all the Valve games I have to where I have about 5GB left. Some said it may be my hard drive. Well I cleared my HD up a but deleting a bunch of games to where I have about 10GB of space left. BF2 and a bunch of other games worked with only 6GB left so I really dont think its my HD.
Really though it can't be my computer at all. I recently brought my comp to a friends house to see if it worked on his internet. Sure enough it ran just as smooth if not more at his house (Playing on the same servers on the same games at the same settings using the same equipment).
I have a wired internt throught the walls. I tried to plug in a ethernet cable to computer and run it straight through to my router, but same exact thing. This is weird though I have a 15 ping (on average) but i lose my connection to a server everytime i join 1. Same goes for CS except I dont lag out I just have amazingly long lag spikes.
So I really don't know whats going on and I'm desperately trying to get this problem fixed cause it's annoying the heck outa me.
I just have a hard time excepting that my internet sucks. Any else have Charter?? When I brouth my computer to my friends house he had SBC DSL (Gaming Internet is what SBC said to him was the one he got).
Plz help me pl0x.
