Do what I did spend some money on a good box with 2 gig of ram.

Or post your specs or dxdiag report, so we can help you.

Hey guys - same here

I have played the game without any problems for the last 8 months, but after patch 1.2, all the sudden I can play at most a round or 2, usually only 4-5 minutes though.

I have a P4 2.8 Ghz processor OC'ed to 3.0 (that runs at 38c) 1Gb of PC3200 DDR ram, brand new Antec 430 watt power supply, ATI X850 Pro 256Mb DDR AGP card.

I have updated Punkbuster. I have un-installed and re-installed the video drivers - including the factory Catalysts, XG Warcats, and Omega drivers. I have messed around with the AGP apereture. I have messed around with the pagefile. I have reset the shaders. I have re-patched the game. I have un-installed and re-installed the game. Ive even re-installed windows. You name it and Ive probably tried it, all to no avail. I didnt have this problem before 1.2, so I pray that it is some type of memory leak or something. But if anyone else has a new and original idea, I'm open to suggestions.

By the way - It sucks that my first post has to be here. Thanks alot BF2:p

I got a very very BIG problem with BF2....i can only play for 25 min or less then being booted out to desktop ....and all this happen after 1.2
then i formated the disk installed it again...now i tried playing with 1.12 same "error" booted out to desktop it all work great before 1.2
when i got my new graphics card it all work great and after patching 25 min play time limit...and i'm getting really P.i.s.s.e.d

Ok guys, I reinstalled my OS last week, and what used to be an intermittent problem. I.E. every two or three maps my computer would crash to desktop. annoying, but liveable.
I know don't survive longer than about 5 minutes. game freezes momentarily then it's back to desktop. rinse and repeat.
I Am going to reinstall battlefield, see if that helps.
I have tried to limit BF2 to using 1 processor, no improvement.
I turned off SLI, no improvement,
I have turned all settings to max 4x AA, no improvement.
I have turned all settings to low .... yeah right, if i wanted it on low EA i wouldn't have bought a top of the range freaking system, get your fingers out your asses and sort it.

People wonder why PC Gamers are leaving the trusted PC for consoles. The games may never ever compare in playability or excellence, but graphically they now can. and they don't have one tenth of the problems. You got to wonder what systems they actually tested this on.

I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but neither of my OS's are installed to the C drive, (both E, not sure why).

I to used to have the crash to desk top problem. It would happen all the time. I tried many things and nothing worked. The only thing that worked was a complete re-format of the pc.I have 2 gig ram dual core 3.8 gig processor,7800gtx dual segates, and that was the only fix.Try it what you got to loose except half a day....

Guys,
A quick idea for you, not sure on your specs, but I was having similar problems, went into bios, and reset memory to default memory timings, and now I have no crash to desktop issues.... weird I know as my memory is stable as hell. will be getting in touch with corsair, and giving them a piece of my mind, probablyy the piece that I lost whilst trying to track this problem down :S grrrrr
I hope this helps, let me know okay.
