Hi all,

First of all, here are my system's specs:

Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 x2 4800+
eVGA GeForce 7800GTX KO x2
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music
Western Digital 350GB SATAII

Windows XP Pro SP2 w/ all priority updates

Drivers:
Nvidia nForce4 motherboard drivers (AMD x16) 6.85
AMD Althon 64 x2 CPU driver 1.1.1.2
Nvidia graphics driver 81.98
Sound Blaster X-Fi driver 5.12.14.1144
Miscrosoft hotfix for dual core CPU

DirectX Diagnosis Info:
Too large to attach (?!)

Okay, here's my problem:

I'll preface this by saying that all my other games run beautifully on my new rig. However, all versions of BF2 (retail to path 1.21) will choke while loading map data if I have SLI enabled and anti-aliasing set to 4x in-game. Loading stops, audio starts to stutter, and the spinning mouse icon starts to chug. I can't ESC out or even bring up the task manager with CTRL-ALT-DEL; I have to reset my machine physically. Everything is set to application-controlled in the Nvidia control app. The game runs fine with AA set to 2x internally.

I have changed CPU core affinity for BF2 to use only one core on my 4800+, but this doesn't sesolve the problem either.

If I diable SLI from Nvidia's control panel, I can run with 4x AA enabled, but I'd obviously like to take full advantage of my dual-GPU setup.

I'm wondering if this is an issue (which may already have bee discussed; I couldn't find it using the forum search) with the new-ish Asus A8N32-SLI motherboard and its dual x16 PCI-e slots.

Any help? It's appreciated!

Try disabling AA in game, and enable SLI AA in the nvidia control panel

Did that, and got the crash again. I just doesn't seem to like SLI on my system for some reason. This is frustrating, to say the least.

No, not yet. I'm going to keep at it. Do you have a dual PCI-e x16 motherboard? I'm thinking that's where the problem lies. If anyone else has an A8N32-SLI (or a similar setup to mine) and has had similar problems, I'd like to hear about it.

I have a near identical rig to you. I do get this sometimes.

You didnt say how much and how fast is your ram ? And all your settings on high ?

I load karkand slow, i'm always in the 2nd half of the 64 players to get on the server, even with a 60 second start delay on the server im slow in., figure that ?

No when it's in SLi it switches to 8X on this board.

Well, since you have a different board and it's 8X x2 when in SLI, you should be fine. :)

FIXED!

I was finally able to get maps loaded and am playing at 1280x1024 4xAA in version 1.21 on my Asus A8N32-SLI, dual eVGA 7800GTX KOs.

The solution: I upgraded from the latest official Nvidia ForceWare drivers, 81.98, to the beta 84.20 release. Decided to test it, and it worked. :)

Is there any way to add this to a tech FAQ for folks with similar machines?
