How many had probs with the EA dowloader?

Hi All,
Let me start by saying that this post isnt a whinge or a flame fest.....I am just interested to know how many forum members had problems with the EAD.

Let me also state that I bought the file last Wednesday, but still havent got it to work yet. I'm mildly annoyed at this, but I have faith that EA will sort of some fixes so I can enjoy this add on pack.

I have had 4 separate problems now, from the 7049:0 problem to the "Catastrophic error" on install to the "system clock being wrongly set" error last night. The 4th one was an Installshield error.

I think if enough players submit genuine posts, and not just "EA sux the fat c#@k", the message may get around that this method of distribution isnt working out for everyone just yet.

I do enjoy BF series immensly, and can say that I havent bought any other games cept the SF pack since BF was released. I would have gladly paid an extra $5 to have a hard copy of the mod.

So please, no whinging, flaming, etc......just honest responses.

I luckely had no single issue with this, I expected loads though. Steam used to be a disaster, but this worked perfectly.

I have had nothing but problems .... I finally got it to install, now when I go to join multiplayer it just freezes up ... very lame to say the least :confused:

I've had the same error and nothing ea tells me to do works. The Ea downloader screen is just white with no error messages. Nothing appears to work so far.

Fine, but once I couldnt log into another account and I kept getting an error, in the end I had to uninstall then reinstall it.

I'm still having problems. I donwloaded it Sunday night and haven't been able to get a clean file. All I get are corrupted ones starting with the "7049:0" error and then the "catastrophic failure" during installation. So now I'm trying one of the alternative download sources to get a clean file.

Thx guys for the info.....I know that the number doesn't represent the community but 31% of players having problems is suprising. I was guessing maybe 5-10%.

Overnight, EA sent me an answer to the "7049:0 error". They said it was an screen saver issue. When a SS pops up, it interferes with the connection.
Unfortunately, thats not correct as I dont run a SS.

I don't have a screensaver either, and it still does not work. (Error 7049:0)
LOL it doesn't even start connecting.
I personally still believe that the problem is due to the EA Downloader containing some poor code.

I got the core error, Luckly i have two systems networked and downloaded on the other / transfared it over / and it worked.

I had no problems with my initial DL and install. I played for a few days and then I got kicked from a server, along with everyone else and a message from EA popped up saying I can't play EF maps cause I have to install it. I have it installed and EA DL'er just says ready to play. I can't ininstall it cause it doesn't show up in control panel, therefore I can't reinstall it??? Thanks EA, there was no problems taking my money from my bank account!!!

Iconix, don't worry about the name you chose for the EA registration.
The gamespy ID you will have to enter at a later point during the registration process for EF. Your gamespy ID is the name you use in BF2 to login.
If it is not the same name you are using in gamespy and BF2, you can login to your gamespy account, and change the name to match your BF2 player name.
That's normal that a lot of names are already chosen. Don't worry about that. Just use a number instead of a letter e.g. replace the I in your name with a 1, a T with a 7 etc. I'm sure you'll be able to create a name for your EA account.

I bought euro forces the first day it came out and had no problems paying with credit card and having my card being debited the next day. I have yet to get it working. Ea downloader errors in the middle of install. I sent a message to ea and got a response a day later telling me to reinstall which i had already done numerous times exactly as they said. I basically tried everything in their troubleshooter and nothing works. I have a very good pc.... amd fx-55, dual sli nvidia 7800 gtx's etc. It really torques me off that this won't work.. i get no support...I guess they're happy they have their money and an honest paying customer is screwed over a week.

Theres 14 pages on the downloader thread on EA's website.

I don't think its the positive response they were talking about though.

I finally got downloader to work after finding a contact number. The first contact gave me the generic answers i already new. He gave me another number for support and he told me to start in safe mode. it worked. apparently a turned off nvidia firewall that comes with my motherboard was screwing things up. asus a8n -sli deluxe.

EA, poor code.....How dare you mister. EA puts nothing but the finest coded programs out today. Highly tested with months and months of QA. :rolleyes:

I first installed the EAD just to get EF. It took about 15 mins total time to download EAD, install it, run it, login, purchase EF, download EF, install EF, play EF.

I have installed EAD and purchased games with it on four computers now...no problems here.

A friend could not get it to work correctly, he was getting errors during the EF download. It turned out to be his Norton firewall. Shut off Norton (he has a hardware firewall - Linksys router) and the EAD worked as it should.
