Minorities in European Army

Hi DICE and EA,

I have played the battlefield series for a long time. I was pleased to see that some black soldiers appeared in Battlefield VietNam. From an historical-realistic point of view of course but also, I think, cause I am black.

In battlefield 2, only the US forces have some minorities in it. And all black soldiers. But no mexicans, asian or arabic guys...

In France, (where I am) from and in UK there are many soldiers coming from minorities and they don't appear in the game, so while I think it would a very straightforward addition.

Of course it's not a big deal, but that would be cool. ;)

Good for you, of'course the problem would be that an arabic guy in a US uniform would make you think it was the enemy who had stole a kit :)

White and black keep it simple, there are also the chinese there but they're basically white ;)

The characters would be transexuals, homosexuals, lesbians, mentally challenged soliders, females, eskimos, and lets not forget dwarfs. Why aren't thier any damned dwarfs in the game! How racist can EA be!!!

My english is not good enough to express myself with all the nuances that I would like to put in my post.
1st:
I have been playing video since 22 years now (started on a C64) in the 80s
and I have been playing every kind of characters from half-gods to lemmings without any kind of identification problem! I loved to play in Sam Fisher, Solid Snake or Lara Croft's skins, no problem.

2nd:
It is just that I feel it would be closer to the reality if they could follow my suggestion. No militantism. No strike. No cars burning in the streets.
If they don't , I don't mind.
It's true that the colour, like the sexual orientation of the character (I guess) don't change anything in the gameplay. But women die in combat too. There are girls in quake, or in medal of honour.

So read the post, and just think for 5 seconds for you to be sure that you get its meaning.

1% isn't many if you ask me.

I haven't got EF, but isn't there only like one British class? If so, then I think having a white player model is justifiably warrantable.

Well,

after having innocently posted this remark, and read some answers, I went to watch some statistics:
-UK: 1% in the late 90s, since 1998 there is a program with the objective to increase it to 6% in 2003...
-France: no statistics of that type... these numbers don't exist officially
-Germany: I don't speak german.

Then if we divide it by 3 to respect the country ratio...it would be hard to justify my post on a statistical point of view.

It remains though that there are some women, indian, black, arab, asian and I think it would be cool to see them. Maybe randomly, maybe in 64 players map I don't know.

You can't have dwarfs in BF2 !!!! That would open one ugly can of worms.

It is annoying to me, when people focus on race so much in trivial matters. Your initial comments demonstrate that when you see other human beings (real or not) you see thier race. When I see people thier race makes no difference to me. I have lived in the United Arab Emirates and in Mexico for two years and I have friends from many different cultures. Why does race make a difference to you? It is a computer game. If all the American soliders were depicted as Mexican, it would not make any difference to me. I would still think Battlefield 2 is a fun game to play. Your comments create division instead of union. You should ask yourself why it makes a difference to you, and contemplate your answer with an open mind. there is nothing bad to see people through their colours when there is prejudice (I hope it is the good word) associated to it...

I noticed that I was essentially playing with white soldiers in bf1942 or Medal oh Honor ONLY when I started to play bf vietnam. Because I never felt offended by it.

And if all the guys were blue that would be good for me too. As I said it is just a detail.

Just the kind of things like the voip system, and the commander/squad hierarchy that makes the thing a bit more realistic and then more fun?

Imagine that Chinese fellows noticed that the accent used by the guys in the game is more like in the northern provinces and that they would like at least some guys talking like in the south or in the west or whatever. This is just a detail right?

So please take it as it is. And please don't tell me that I am racist.

PS: I thought it was a funny thing at the beginning but now...

As we know, vanilla BF2 has black skins. That's all fine and dandy, but maybe EA/Dice is racist. Look who gets the black skins, the Anti-tank and Support class, or better known as the hump classes, manual labor classes. While the whites get to be medics and engineers. :shock:

Personally i don't care and i doubt EA/Dice is racist, but it surprises me that Jesse Jackson isn't starting a big protest..

There are more important things to fix on Battlefield 2 than race, and colors. Black and white were the two most simple ones to choose. You can go on strikes, write letters, do whatever but DICE won't do anything about it because there's no need to. It's a computer game, it's pixels, get over it. Let's not make this game into a racial protest.
