View Full Version : Patch 1.21/1.22 lag/stuttering FIXED!!

It seems i have fixed my lag problem!!! "there is a problem with your connection" flashing every minute for a couple of secs.
If you have this problem since patch 1.21/1.22 and you are using wireless: READ ON!!!
I read somewhere that the windows wless config may sometimes mess up your connection. I did not believe this could be the cause of my bf2 lag, because i only started lagging after the patch. But as said i was desperate so i tried disabling the auto config for wless. Guess what: IT WORKS!!!! NO MORE "THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH YOUR CONNECTION"
I am now back to my pre 1.21 lag-free gameplay. So if you tried disabling VOIP and EAX and that did not work: here is the newest possible solution
click start> Run type services.msc [enter]. In the screen that pops up look for a service named "wireless zero configuration" select it, and click stop this service in the upper left corner. Start Bf2 and, at least in my case, ENJOY!!!

don't forget to turn it on again after you stop playing bf2. Although this is not a vital service and disabling it will not harm your pc in any way, it is best to turn it on after quitting bf2. Furthermore, i have no idea as to why this works, but it does and that's all that matters to me. The only thing I could come up with is that the 1.21 1.22 server/client compatibility fixes somehow mess with the wless config. If this fixes your problems as well plz post it, so I can spread the word.

Hey, made an account just so I could say thanks. This fixed my stutter issue perfectly.

I agree, the connection problem goes away with zero config off. I forgot to turn it off today and the problem was right back, and went away again as soon as I turned it off.

Thanks,

I stopped the service on my machine pernamently as I have NO wireless. Now I gotta check and see if it works.

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/8/802_11.html

802.11 refers to a family of specifications developed by the IEEE for wireless LAN technology. 802.11 specifies an over-the-air interface between a wireless client and a base station or between two wireless clients. The IEEE accepted the specification in 1997.
There are several specifications in the 802.11 family:

802.11 -- applies to wireless LANs and provides 1 or 2 Mbps transmission in the 2.4 GHz band using either frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) or direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS).
802.11a -- an extension to 802.11 that applies to wireless LANs and provides up to 54 Mbps in the 5GHz band. 802.11a uses an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing encoding scheme rather than FHSS or DSSS.
802.11b (also referred to as 802.11 High Rate or Wi-Fi) -- an extension to 802.11 that applies to wireless LANS and provides 11 Mbps transmission (with a fallback to 5.5, 2 and 1 Mbps) in the 2.4 GHz band. 802.11b uses only DSSS. 802.11b was a 1999 ratification to the original 802.11 standard, allowing wireless functionality comparable to Ethernet.
802.11g -- applies to wireless LANs and provides 20+ Mbps in the 2.4 GHz band.

EDIT:::

I believe this is one item I will adopt pernamently as I dont use wireless. I joined a server to test this and cannot find any stutter, maybe this is one fix we can really use in the game.

Try uncheck "QoS" , network settings for LAN Connection 1. Helped me :D

Do you mean "Automatic configuration of wireless units" ?

glad i could help a couple of you guys, but i'm sorry for you who still experience the stuttering. Although some of us no longer experience this problem dice should still adress this issue in the next patch. I never had problems with my connection before and even now BF2 is the only game where i need to mess with my pc to get it to work properly.
good luck to those still struggling!

Youre right, when using a cable connection you might just as well disable it permanently, since you don't need it. For the wireless guys out there it is recommended to turn it on again after playing BF2. It is not a neccesary sevice to keep connected to your wireless router, but it is needed to connect ie when starting up your pc(or when someone else that uses the wireles network turns on their pc). To make it a little easier you can create two small executables to turn this process off and on from you desktop. will post later when i got some more time;)

( Im not sure about the service name as i'm on w2k atm , but you can checkit on the services screen)

Stopping / starting this manually :
create 2 new text files startwzc.bat & stopwzc.bat
..start.. contains the line
net start wzcsvc
..stop.. contains the line
net stop wzcsvc

save and doubleclick to start/stop the service

^^ that's exactly what i meant, you may find this easier to use. (I just do it through the services screen, but try it both and decide for yourself)

This worked great I was so happy when playing tonight. The only thing is I was playing and it shut the game completely off. The sever had 2 reserves and I guess since I am a noobie I got bumped off is that generally how it does it just shuts the game off. Other than that incident I played lag free no error problems popping up just want to keep playing and get better because there are some great players out there. Thanks again for the fix I had ran out of things to try. If anybody could fill me in on if that is how it does if you get booted for somebody that is reserved I would appreciate it greatly. :D

thanks for the info, this indeed does help alleviate the stuttering. I'm going to look through and disable any other non-essential services.

so if you connect only thru wireless, turn this off and you can still play?

so if you connect only thru wireless, turn this off and you can still play?I turned mine off and have no problem connecting. It is more fun to play now since you are not getting killed due to lag and error with your connection.
