After a break from news posting, the guys behind the Point of Existence 2 (http://www.pointofexistence.com/) mod are back again with a new update. As always, they are back with some great media to showcase. Take a look:

This week’s news post will begin with screenshots of something that Mach10 has worked on. When he was interviewed to become a member of the team it was agreed that he would work on something that he has a passion for. That passion ended up being “game modes” and he’s done just an outstanding job with what he has developed so far. The first thing he worked on was our “Objective” game mode which we will showcase in the near future. Only reason we aren’t showing screens of it right now is that we need to have what the “Objective” will be skinned. The item has been added in-game for the testers to play with and things are working great with it. Stay tuned as it will probably be showcased in a new video hopefully very soon. The other item that he took ownership to develop for the mod has been a way to use player controlled artillery. He must have stayed up around the clock to get it developed and the first design in-game as it seemed like he had it working very quickly. The screenshots we are showing below are considered a “work-in-progress” but the actual coding has been perfected and working nicely in our internal builds. The team is thankful for Mach10’s time and effort and with him standing up to the plate to assist with other items that he’s working on currently. He is definitely a Python Coder Extraordinaire!

With the Ukraine team being able to “pick-up” a NTW-20 from their “armory”, we figured it would be good that the German team have something that they can use for anti-material snipping. The G-82 .50 caliber (12.7mm) rifle will be included for the German team to use which “AgentX” was able to develop the model & skin for.

The POE Development team has always tried to keep the gaming community involved with suggesting the game play that is developed for our mod. One item that is always requested is “Infantry only” maps. We try to give a good mix of everything and this week’s “Map of the Week” is another level designed by “SgtWedge” called “Orel”. The map is 95% infantry as it will have a jeep like vehicle for each side. The map outline is a battle in a small village. Using the terrain and buildings for cover and working in fire teams to provide covering fire will be a smart tactics for this map. Camouflage is definitely useful since the levels are designed to utilize shrubs, grass, and trees. The map layout for 16, 32, 64 and other screenshots will be posted later in the Interactive Development area of the forums (http://www.pointofexistence.com/forums/index.php?showforum=10).

Another item that we decided to take back and re-do in response to constructive criticism has been the Shilka. This Anti-air nightmare was touched up by “Spitfire” in the camouflage design which we hope you enjoy.

They'd also like to mention that a new teaser video is on the way. Another very impressive update from the Point of Existence 2 (http://www.pointofexistence.com/) team!

awesome as always

suggestion: if it's possible in the engine (without too much lag) - can you make the shilka go real bright when you fire the guns? them some bright flashes - how's about some light on that baby when you fire!

Maybe it does for a frame or 2 but the screenie doesn't show it - but it looks the same all over but theres a big flash up there

keep up the good work gentlemen. I've always followed the PoE stuff and have been really impressed, even if i used a different name to play it back in BFV so people wouldn't think i was takin a vacation from DC back in the day.

and OMG player controlled artillery. You've just made the step to attract the DC folks. I wonder if you'd share your secrets with other mods who feel as if it's needed (like i do).

Good to hear and see of you guys again, different gamemodes interest me the most because the lack of different gamemodes in BF2 is probably the biggest reason why the game is so boring these days. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the "objective" maps.

I love the direction your team is taking. A lot of great looking screenshots, renders, weapons. Even the factions..although my GF would like to point out the Ukrainians wouldn't actually stand a chance against the Germans ;)...let alone the US and the Germans! I guess that is what is beautiful with fictional storylines! hehehe

I am also going to enjoy a series of different maps, including the infantry only map. I have to admit that I too would spend money to have this on disc. It's looking to be a game in itself.

Player controlled artillery, how cool is that! It just makes so much more sense and I love the way you've implemented it.

Once again, a winner in my books, and nothing but hopes for this mod. It will be my next BF2 game.

PEACE

Looks great guys and cant wait. I find it interesting how soo many people hate the arty in BF2. I think its great. Sure the opposing commander can see you and drop in on you but thats up to your team to get rid of it. A good commander can make or break a match with arty. He's there to help his team out and the other side is just as equiped. I think its great because you never know when its going to hit. I also think they should have one random strike within 10 seconds of the last just so you never know. My guessing is that most players dont like the "never know and uncontrollable" aspect of the arty.
I mean gamers have always had knowledge of the game and how it will play out and arty throws a monkey wrench into it. A good player IMHO can adapt quickly to any situation. Just some thoughts
Long live BF!

I completely disagree with your opinion. :|:

Commander artillary is just not fun. Player-Controlled artillary is on the other hand, a lot more fun and takes at least some skill to kill your opponent

I'm wondering how the artillerilery is going to work. Will the commander still be able to drop arty only after someone spots him or will it be open to any player like in BF42. Anyway, good job, as always
