There is a new update posted today over at the BF Pirates 2 (http://bfpirates.com/) mod website. They are back with some nice new media to show. Take a look:

Welcome back to another BF Pirates 2 update. With last week showcasing the first of the Peglegs, today we’re presenting the Undead Assault.

<a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/undead_assault_lrg_apr.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_undead_assault_lrg_apr.jpg"></a>

You will first see this character introduced in the second public release. Our art director, Mike Perry, has also written a fantastic developer journal entry on this character, which will be posted later this week, so be sure to check back soon!

The staff have been hard at work planning the designs for future levels in BFP2, from layouts, buildings, props, and settings. We are proud to show you some designs from our third map in development, “Storm the Bastion”. The following layouts were designed by Guenter "Wegvisor" Sonnleitner...

<a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/april1.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_april1.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/april2.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_april2.jpg"></a>
<a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/april3.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_april3.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/april4.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_april4.jpg"></a>

Fabian "Bibi5000" Hofmann has also designed some fantastic wallpapers for our fans, which are “mood concepts” for levels.

<a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/desktop1.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_desktop1.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/desktop2.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_desktop2.jpg"></a>

Many fans have asked to see the weapon models in BFP2. Though we initially planned to not show any un-textured models, we haven’t had much luck attracting some dedicated weapon and static skinners, so if you are a texture artist and the models below appeal to you, please visit this page (http://bfpirates.com/?Page=textureartist).

<a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/april7.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_april7.jpg"></a> <a href="http://www.totalbf2.com/images.php?img=news/images/april6.jpg"><img src="/news/images/thumb_april6.jpg"></a>

A very nice update to get back into the scene. Be sure to stop by their site (http://bfpirates.com/) to learn more.

Wow, the concept looks great! Only thing I have to comment on is the model polygons. It seems a little over excessive, and to me, it'd be a mad bore and pain to unwrap. The models look good, but just consider lowering the polygons and feeling sorry for the people who have to unwrap and skin them :)

Heya Tib

These are for the normal maps, which are pretty easy to skin. They are applied onto low-poly base models to reduce lag within game but still having the models looks good :)

I think there is some normal mapping in there, so the polys shouldn't be too hard. Alot of planning is going into BFP2, it's going to be great :) .

i agree that the poly use on the flintlock system is a little excessive but lowering polies simply to make the skinners job easier is a no no and is totally unneccessary IMO. although really, to be honest, i cant see why anyone would find tht hard to unwrap.

nice work guys - gaaarrrrrrrr!

EDIT: I think there is some normal mapping in there, so the polys shouldn't be too hard

nup - from where i am standing they are standard clay renders with white textures. no normal mapping ;)

DOUBLE EDIT: ah - i see now detrux, you are using these high poly models to bake your normal maps... that probably should have been mentioned in the update - because even with the normal maps you make from these models your low poly weapons will look quite different ingame from the high poly weapons you have posted there...

Ah, sorry. Didn't realize the normal maps were placed in the render :P In that case, good work. Just keep on pumping!

i think you missed what he was saying - these are the super high poly versions they will be baking the normal maps from ;) the low poly ingame models are not displayed.

This is just the kinda mod BF2 needs. Love the concepts, too. If the in-game art is 1/10 as good as the concepts, then they'll rock.

Good luck.
