A mod that has been around for awhile now, 1944 D-Day (http://www.1944d-day.com/), have posted up some news regarding the progress of their BF2 version. They are looking for some help to get the mod running. Here's what they had to say:

We have been very silent in our BF2 developments, but we are finally wrapping up our HL2 developments (just waiting on the final batch of content). So that leaves our BF2 in the all clear for full scale development. We are currently entering an open beta signup for the full game of 1944 which is very exciting and alot of hard work and dedication has gotten us this far.

We are currently looking for:
-BF2 Mappers
-Texture Artists
-Modellers
-Animators

While we have a substantial team more members are always more than welcome. I will only post our recent Tanker Model, the rest can be found via our website and forums (although the level shots are a bit old at this point the weapon skins are still good).

Give them a holler if you can help out with the mod. Drop by their site (http://www.1944d-day.com/) to learn more.

Hmmm...is the info about the mod on their website - for HL2 or BF2?
It sounds like it would very very laggy if it was for BF2, but the idea is awesome.

Seems like they have some work to do, before releas, I don't think we can expect a releas nearby :(

I don't understand is this mod for BF2 or HL2, or is it a Stand alone game based on one of the engines?

AFAIK they will release a standalone game based in the Reality engine, a mod for HL2 and another mod for BF2, but seems the BF2 mod is in very early stages of development though

Let me update you. The HL2 mod is nearing completion, the BF2 mod is in early development and the full game we hope should be out by the end of the year. Also the BF2 mod will not include the whole of Normandy, but instead it will include the general game layout, lower poly count models and vehicles and will just be maps instead of a continous level which goes on.

There will be:

- Standalone commercial game based on the Reality Engine, including all features mentioned on the official 1944 homepage. There will also be an educational edition featuring tons of historical information, a network system making it possible to use the game in the classroom etc.

- Half-Life 2 Mod

- Battlefield 2 Mod

The mods idea is to give the players an insight of whats expecting them in the full game. A nice example is 1944's AI system being included in these "demos".

Well, there are, roughly said, two thigs mods are contained of:

1. programming side
2. visual and audio side

The content for visual and audo side will be taken from the game. So it is for the hl2 mod. So for b2 mod, we dont need to model every weapon and record all of the sounds.
So again, roughly said, for the bf2 only programming and mapping is needed. And even here there are less work to do. Because we know how the map should look like and how some features to be coded (could be wrong on this, don't have a clue in programming :) )

Dont worry, its not so bad as it looks ;)

ps. some more info about the mod for bf2 can be found here:

Why does it look like that to you? This won't be an ordinary online shooter, you'd better call this a SIMULATION as it will be the most realistic WW2 game you ever played. ;)
